Re: Who would drive an EV ?

cycle tramp wrote: 3 Aug 2023, 10:18pm We also have to think about EV battery life when stationery for hours in traffic queues. Whilst there's no drain from the electric motor, the battery is still still being drained by light, or air conditioning in hot weather and the heater in cold weather. We could be in a situation whereby people start a journey with just enough power to get to there destination, find themselves stuck on a traffic jam for 4 or 5 hours and then fail to have enough energy to reach their destination.
How does this differ from sitting with the engine running to power aircon etc? Of course it's easier just to put some petrol or diesel in if you run out but the AA etc have systems now to recharge EVs so they can get to a charging station. I've been driving 40 years covering the whole of the UK and have never been stuck for hours on end, I know it happens but it's a rare event.

mig wrote: 4 Aug 2023, 1:03pm i'd think that cheaper overnight rates for electricity would be a thing of the past if/when there are a significant amount of vehicles being charged ready for the morning.

many houses have 2 or more vehicles. able to charge them all ready for the morning?
How often would they all want to charge all at once? Probably never. I know a few households with 3 EVs and many with 2. I did ask a friend who has and EV as does his wife and son how they managed to charge as I know they only have one charge point. He said it had never been an issue each of them only charges once a week or less.

Re: Is it Cheating

I was meant to do it with the Wimps a few years ago but had to back out. Fat forward to this year and I started at LE but a graze on my thigh became infected and I was hospitalised for a week on IV antibiotics in Carlisle. They then transferred me to my local hospital. I never want to do it in two halves but needs must. I'll do the other half next year.

As best as I can understand it your recommendation for older guys, like most of us here, is to take some vitamin D - I wonder how much - and that the rest (of vitamin and mineral needs) should arrive via a varied diet. Would that be correct?
Current NHS advice on vitamin D including dose:
https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/vitamins- ... vitamin-d/

Jonathan

PS: I personally think that it's wise to supplement with that dose all year round. And i wouldn't be surprised if that appeared in the NHS guidance quite soon.
Agree entirely. I would expect the recommendations to change.

al_yrpal wrote: 2 Jun 2023, 4:06pm We PAYG for energy and I just worked out that if we paid monthly it would cost £283 per month. MSE gives new rates for gas and electricity and I worked out that the new cap will give us a £63 per month reduction for gas and electricity.

I know the drones who send us bills have to buy energy in advance but I get the feeling we are all being heartily ripped off especially by the owners of so called green energy suppliers whose costs havent appreciably increased?

Al
Just had a letter from EDF to say our DD is going down by £63 from next month to £126 (all electric air sourced heat pump heating etc).

If not, it might be worth contacting him.
He doesn't do electrophysiology, he does imaging - unlike Richard Schilling previously mentioned (I've worked with both).

There are many excellent Electrophysiologists in Canada you can be referred to.

ANTONISH wrote: 29 May 2023, 9:40am I read an article in the "The Times" last Thursday which suggested that a daily multivitamin may be good for brain health and staving off Alzheimers .
I've have been of the impression that multivitamins were ineffective or even harmful.
Does anyone have an opinion on this?
It is an interesting study. From what I've seen the participants who appeared to benefit most were those already known to have cardiovascular disease. I'd say this study shows a positive signal of benefit in these individuals over the age of 65 yrs but this may not be replicated in the wider population and as usual more studies are needed. However over the counter multivitamins are cheap and safe (subject to not being on other medications) so it would be reasonable for an individual to take them if they so wished.

I wish I could be more positive but there's a reason the Smart car went out of production
The Smart car is still in production?

Our local authority stopped mowing many areas last year and rain this year. The insects etc LOVE it! Many residents however complain how dangerous it is to be exiting roundabouts when they can't see what's coming........you try telling them they should slow down!

Do you have a source for that, please?

Thanks

I'm pretty sure it was in one of Dr Gemma Parry-Williams papers.
