Re: Trekking handlebars advice pls.

I tried butterflys and liked them, but there was still something that did not convince they were the best solution. Perhaps it was the lower hand grips raised my center of gravity and made downhills a little scary. So I switched back to flats with the shown bar ends. I like them much more as the swe...

Re: Pedal tap set

I don't mean to be rude, but if you have stripped the threads of a new crank, what makes you think you will do a good job of cutting new threads? I had not tightened the pedal enough and became loose whilst pedaling, that was the cause of the strip, not the installation. Maybe I'll just save the ch...

Re: Pedal tap set

needless to say, some bike shops have the correct tools and will do this repair at a reasonable cost. cheers Appreciate all Brucey, but my LBS will not give me the time of day unless I spend a couple thousand there. I've had people ask me to do repairs/ maintenance on their bikes because this shop ...

Re: Possibly dumb question - fixing panniers to rear Tubus rack.

I set up the upper hooks so the panniers sit as far back as possible, also so there is no play back and fourth. With that, I don't believe the lower hook can reach the back bar, so I set it to fit the middle bar. Surprised about the "panniers as far back as possible". I try to get mine as...

Re: Pedal tap set

Thanks for the input.
I will attempt to do the repairs for a reasonable price, otherwise, it's just not worth it. I don't see the sense to pay for a repair kit that cost 2-3 X more than what the crank set costs.
It's not a tool I foresee ever needing again.

Cheers

Re: Pedal tap set

About half the threads are stripped out. I was able to ride home with it.
It's not an urgent project as I had a replacement crank, but it just seems like a waste to have a brand new crank set just sitting there.
My plan was to go to my auto mechanic for the ream/tap and put in the plug myself.

Pedal tap set

Hello. By not being thorough in my crank set installation, I stripped the pedal threads out of a brand new crank. I see there are tap sets to repair this, but they are much too expensive. The Var set which comes with tap and plugs sell for over 100. The Unior is double. The plugs themselves are not ...

Re: knock off Disc Trucker

Not sure I like the rear end. The dropouts point down, and the rear rack mounts are quite.... unique.

Re: How many spokes?

I've bought to sets of 36 spoke wheels. I am heavier and do mainly touring. I don't know much about the road bike hubs, but Shimano offers most of their MTB hubs in a 36 hole
Like Brucey said; better to err on the side of caution.

I found this company. I have yet to try them, but they offer interesting trips for a reasonable price.
Unfortunately their site is only in Italian. Perhaps you can use Google translate

Re: Bike Bags Bought!!

It seems that the TSA gives less training than ever. Swabbing a bag (or bike) should be non-invasive. One only needs to swab the areas where air is permeable.. Zippers, openings, hinges and in your case, where the plastic is taped. They keep having this idea that someone is going to handle dangerous...
