Tyre deflating straight after a ride

So I went to the shed yesterday and found my front tyre deflated. Put a new tube in, after checking for any obvious culprits embedded in the tyre. This morning tyre was still fully inflated and I went for a 40 minute ride, all good. Then I stopped for a while, and 10 minutes later my tyre was completely flat. All very odd. Any ideas?

And they both retired to a life of penury no doubt having returned all their unearned wealth to those who overpaid for their houses?
I neither said nor implied that. The fact that constraints may be imperfect does not imply that none exist. I doubt either individual was planning to get fired.

Re: Unconstrained Capitalism and the Environment

Stradageek wrote: 27 Sep 2023, 10:34am In 2017 Persimmon made £977m in profit before tax and awarded £500m in bonuses to 150 executives (£100m to the CEO). In that year they built 16,043 houses. The governments 'help to buy' scheme contributed to this profit level - a builder who knows that a buyer gets £2k free cash from the government will simply put up house prices by the same amount and pocket the money.

So with just the £30,000 per house sale which went straight into the pockets of the 150 executives they could have installed heat pumps in all their new houses and reduced the price of each house by £20,000. But they didn't because they didn't have to.

When will any government (this government having no interest in changing the status quo) realise that unconstrained capitalism is a disaster and start legislating against pure greed?

1990s rigid steel MTB - current version a Specialized Hardrock bought for £40. Capable of pretty much every non-extreme application.

This is an increasingly attractive option.

Re: GPS unit that tells you where you are

Thanks all. I notice the Garmin 1030 Plus is on special offer at Chain Reaction Cycles, down from an eye-watering £520 to a conceivable £300. I'm wondering though why such a big discount, it seems a bit odd?

Yes but battery life is limited compared w GPS unit. My current solution is to mount it next to the GPS unit and activate Google Maps on it when I get to somewhere interesting, but it is quite a clunky process.

GPS unit that tells you where you are

I'm happy with my Wahoo Bolt v1, in so much as it is effective at telling me where to go next.

However, I would also like to know where I am now. I often find myself riding through some village say, and wondering, what is the name of this place? But the Bolt is not very good at indicating that on the little map.

Any units that people would recommend?

Thanks

Re: How's your weather?

The weather forecast for Seville is 22-24 degrees and sunny for the whole of next week. Part of me wants to jump on a plane and hire a bike out there for 5 days. I know I mustn't though :(

It does indeed. Here in the West Country, we have our own map:

Re: Who, What, Why: How dangerous are tick bites in the UK?

Infected bites can often (but not always) lead to a distinctive 'bullseye rash'. If you see one of these, get yourself to the doctors sharpish - I believe antibiotics are usually sufficient if the infection is treated early.

Lance Dopestrong wrote: 5 Mar 2023, 4:52pm I've watched it again and again and agai , and the aalient moment is just off camera. Nevertheless, I'm happy in my own mind that she actually pushed the victim. There was more than just a bit of angry gesturing going on there.
Taking the following into account:

a) the footage itself, and (visible in slow motion right at the end) the way Grey's left arm moves behind her body as Mrs Ward tries to pass

b) Grey's own admission that she made "light contact" with Mrs Ward

c) the investigating officer's comment that "a lot of the arguments in relation to appropriate responses would be null and void" if the complete footage were released

d) the decisions by the judge, who had heard all the evidence (i) to impose the sentence (ii) to refuse a post-sentencing request for bail

This seems to me rather likely. It's a shame the judge has not been more transparent - I think his efforts to protect Grey? (the public?) from the details have backfired.

The investigating police officer commented yesterday:
"I'll always remember the morning after it occurred obtaining the CCTV and watching it in its entirety.

"In all honesty it's horrific and not appropriate for wider release to the public, but, if it were, then I think a lot of the arguments in relation to appropriate responses would be null and void."
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-c ... e-64835197
which is fine, the problem is lots of those people debating it in other forums/newspaper columns etc etc, wont read or understand what the police officer has said and simply conclude it was an unfair/harsh conviction based on their limited understanding of all the details.

whilst I appreciate we dont on the whole publish all the details of trials like this, the consequence of it is not leaving us in a better place, as the kind of half reported conclusions people make inevitably fuels ill will feeling towards cyclists, especially those using shared facilities.

Ive seen in discussions or btl comments in newspapers certainly more sympathy being expressed for the woman convicted of the crime, than the woman who actually died.
Fair comment. That same article refers to Grey admitting having made "light contact" with Mrs Ward. I think it at least possible that Grey's actions were considerably worse than those publicised, and this this has been withheld with good intentions but has resulted in some unfortunate side effects.
