Re: Recovery from fractures

The fracture through the acetabulum is the worry as it is affecting the actual hip joint which is a ball and socket joint. It is vital to try to let this heal as well as it can to minimise possible future osteoarthritic changes. The other fractures are painful but should heal with time, avoiding movements causing pain but otherwise moving and painkillers. Get advice about the acetabular fracture from physio and orthopaedic people - avoiding early weight bearing through the joint can be important. I came off on Nov 25th and did my right superior pubic ramus. Painful but should heal well, whatever I do🤞! Intermittently using 1 crutch now.

Forme electric bikes

Anyone know much about these? In particular a woman's road or hybrid version? Can't see much about them here or on Pedelec. A friend has just got one for his wife and I know he will have researched it, but I must say I wasn't really aware of them. Thanks for your thoughts!

Re: Sunday strict observance on Outer Hebrides northern isles

Echo much of what has been said. We were up there about 10 years ago and noticed a definite change from South to North. Were somewhere on Lewis on a Sunday and what seemed even more Draconian was the local playground where the swings were padlocked so they couldn't be used! Maybe it's different now?

Re: Acetabular fracture recovery

You need to get this one right. Any fracture through an articular (joint) surface makes the joint more liable to arthritic change earlier than might have happened otherwise. As a general rule 6 weeks to get reasonable strength in a fracture and 3-4 months before healed as good as it's going to get. So listen to a good orthopaedic surgeon and physio. Don't be tempted to put weight or stress through it too soon. Good luck.

Lake Balaton in Hungary? Not Alpine but would fit the bill.

I agree. Sounds good and more doable. If we had a back up van would be more complicated with ferries etc if the van was to follow us.

Re: WIMPS Coast To Coast 2019

Likewise no problem with guest rider (sorry a few posts back). Also don't mind driving van back from pub as alcohol doesn't do much for me! Anyone staying b&b the night before? Had 1or 2 places earmarked in Whitehaven, but as we've got transport could stay in St Bees. As we've got transport back up I presume don't need panniers to carry our kit (but will get a handlebar bag this time  )? Yes are the off road bits suitable for a road bike? As I remember it there was always an on road alternative nearby?
Nick I'll get copies of your booklet through eBay so that's a little less you need to bring. I haven't forgotten I owe you for the first one. Been away and off the bike for a while.

Looks good. Agree about not retracing our original route. Always fancied including some of the Scottish islands even if just Arran, but I guess too tricky. I take it you've avoided Loch Lomond side as it's supposed to be pretty hairy. From my point of view 2 weeks would seem more doable and practical for those working. What time of year? Similar to LEJOG? If I'm going to be able to do it need to start planning round family committments etc. Also need to decide whether camping, b&b or a mixture. We were lucky with the weather on LEJOG as far as camping goes.

I'd like one if possible - pick up and drop off. Preston Tickled Trout? Haven't booked an overnight stay on the Monday yet. Waiting to see what was happening. Could make a pick up and drop off in Sheffield if it was easier.

Re: In-flight meals and veggie options?

Try getting a gluten free meal without pre-ordreing. Even when you do, they mess it up and admit they have (Emirates supposedly one of the better airlines). Never mind here's a lovely plate of lettuce, which needs more calories to eat than it gives. Vegetarianism / veganism are life style choices. You won't become ill of you eat a piece of meat. You will if you eat gluten and are a coeliac!
