Re: What is stopping women from cycling?

You can’t quote ‘cycling in the Netherlands’ without looking at the way wider society operates. As a more than full time working parent with children in rural primary schools until this year, without any sort of before or after school care options, cycling to and from work was definitely not an opti...

Re: What is stopping women from cycling?

You misunderstand, I don’t find it hard to do alone, cycling alone is not any harder than cycling with another person. I simply don’t enjoy it enough to make it a big part of how I spend my leisure time. I would be really interested to know what on earth an interest in my appearance has got to do wi...

Re: What is stopping women from cycling?

I seem to have deleted my earlier post. I don’t actually enjoy cycling on my own on country roads so only cycle when I have got someone else to ride with. I am a 50 year old mathematician and understand stats and risks, perception or otherwise, but I simply don’t enjoy cycling alone. The groups near...

Re: Brompton cycles choices

Why would you do that when the racers have Kevlar linings? Marathon plus for me anyway but surely it is the same thing in a different name? Racers/Kevlar isn’t it?

Re: Brompton cycles choices

The standard tyre is Marathon Racer, the options are Marathon (plus but they don't seem to call it plus anymore) and Kojak (for £20 on the price).

Re: Hewick Bridge, Ripon, Road Closure

And me, daily, to and from work :) . Well done NYCC! The Copt Hewick road is now best avoided, the potholes are absolutely massive after weeks of use by all the vehicles avoiding the bridge.

Re: Hewick Bridge, Ripon, Road Closure

It reopened tonight thankfully, two weeks early. But no, there wasn’t any access at all, turning right through Copt Hewick was the alternative.

Re: short-ish women: what frame do you have for audax?

5’5 isn’t particularly short.

Our 11 year old (5’3 ish) fits the second size up Spa tourer. Ask Colin on here about their Audax frames.

Re: Travel Insurance

Not sure what they can do on a worldwide basis but Hiscox are our home insurer as well and they cover bikes to the value of £3k each anywhere in Europe and at home. No specific lock type stipulation, it has to be locked to something permanently fixed down. I asked them about it before I moved to the...

Re: Brompton cycles choices

I have recently ordered a Brompton and ordered this for when I feel the need to cover it up (meetings in buildings as a visitor in mind as I am using a Brompton as an excuse to sell a car so will be fairly reliant upon it), otherwise it will just sit next to my desk folded. https://www.brompton.com/...

Re: Brompton bag mount

Thanks. Bob’s post made sense so I ordered it. It is here already and the mount is the same. Now just the remaining five week wait for the bike. Really pleased with the price reduction, I would have paid the full asking price otherwise as I wanted ortleib level waterproofing rather than having to ad...

Re: Travel Insurance

Hiscox will do it. Max duration up to 62 days, independent cycle touring Is a listed activity.

Sorry Eta, you need to select “C” then independent cycle touring, level 2 from memory.
