Re: Brompton cycles choices
Why would you do that when the racers have Kevlar linings? Marathon plus for me anyway but surely it is the same thing in a different name? Racers/Kevlar isn’t it?

Re: Brompton cycles choices
The standard tyre is Marathon Racer, the options are Marathon (plus but they don't seem to call it plus anymore) and Kojak (for £20 on the price).

Re: Hewick Bridge, Ripon, Road Closure
And me, daily, to and from work . Well done NYCC! The Copt Hewick road is now best avoided, the potholes are absolutely massive after weeks of use by all the vehicles avoiding the bridge.

Re: Hewick Bridge, Ripon, Road Closure
It reopened tonight thankfully, two weeks early. But no, there wasn’t any access at all, turning right through Copt Hewick was the alternative.

Re: Travel Insurance
Not sure what they can do on a worldwide basis but Hiscox are our home insurer as well and they cover bikes to the value of £3k each anywhere in Europe and at home.
No specific lock type stipulation, it has to be locked to something permanently fixed down. I asked them about it before I moved to them, they figure that someone with an expensive bike will do the best they can lock wise.
I moved our annual travel policy to them last year because they cover independent cycle touring although a month in Europe is the extent of it for us.

Re: Brompton cycles choices
I have recently ordered a Brompton and ordered this for when I feel the need to cover it up (meetings in buildings as a visitor in mind as I am using a Brompton as an excuse to sell a car so will be fairly reliant upon it), otherwise it will just sit next to my desk folded.

Re: Brompton bag mount
Thanks. Bob’s post made sense so I ordered it. It is here already and the mount is the same. Now just the remaining five week wait for the bike.
Really pleased with the price reduction, I would have paid the full asking price otherwise as I wanted ortleib level waterproofing rather than having to add a rain cover.

Re: Travel Insurance
Hiscox will do it. Max duration up to 62 days, independent cycle touring Is a listed activity.
Sorry Eta, you need to select “C” then independent cycle touring, level 2 from memory.

Brompton bag mount
Brompton have the front Ortlieb bag reduced to £82 on their webpage, 2015 model bags. Does anyone know if the mount has changed since 2015? Bike is being built so a current mount will be included.

Re: Any advice on booking ferries?
August, peak holiday time included a 15% discount offer. Two adults plus an 11 year old.
No spoiling a sense of a bargain as we have both the dates and cabin type we wanted, we paid £5 for all three bikes. June is term time for us.
We have an annual travel policy that includes cycle touring with Axa.

Re: Any advice on booking ferries?
We use ferries a lot, three people, three bikes. Phone them up, their system cannot cope with one bike per person online, they are all the same, DFDS, Brittany etc., etc., none of them can book three bikes on an online reservation for three people.
We have never had any issues.
We are travelling Newcastle to Amsterdam return in August. Three people, three bikes, four person cabin each way £500. I don't think that is too bad.
Early booking gets the cheapest fares generally, we booked ours in January.

Re: Should I book my camp sites in the Netherlands?
Us too, in August - we might book a night or two and a night or two(!) with VODF but we generally like to free range (which is why we decided to carry the camping gear after all).
Almost anyone anywhere will squeeze you in if you arrive by bike in our experience. Especially with a knackered looking child!

Re: Pyramid or tipi tents?
We bought the 197x pole. The other one weighs 60% more and we figured that the recommended one must be adequate or they wouldn't be recommending it.

Re: Pyramid or tipi tents?
Photos. We do use extra lines from the reflective tabs half way up, just dyneema cord that we had left over from another other tent. Stitching/zips are as good as our TN tent.
