Re: Quote for Painting a Dawes Galaxy Ultra

I had my Genesis Longitude powder coated, four years ago, here in Glasgow for £65. Quite happy with the work.

Re: SP-8 Hub Dynamo

I’ve done about 9,000 miles on an Exposure branded SP-PD8, and, as the bike was second hand, who knows how many miles it did before that. So far, no problems.

Go and see big Al at Wheelcraft, in Clachan of Campsie, north of the city. He’ll build the right wheels for you.

Non-lenient sentences

How about a sub forum for deserved, or non lenient sentences? Here's one for starters. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland- ... t-65340018
The lenient sentencing makes my blood boil. Sentencing like this reduce it to a simmer. We need more good news.

Tongsheng lights

Has anybody retro-fitted lights to the battery in a Tongsheng set up?

Bell @ The Range

A new 'The Range' has opened near me recently so I popped in today. Amongst the usual cheap tools and lights in the bike department was a Retro Bike Bell. At only £4.49, it's a bargain. Loud with a pleasant and long lasting tone, it seems well made. It's similar to https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/bells-horns ... ll-copper/

Re: Squealing disc brake

Thanks to all, especially Tim-B. I came down a very steep street in Glasgow city centre and tried to stop using only the rear brake, pulling as hard as I could, although I had to use the front brake to stop completely. When I stopped, I could smell burning and there was smoke coming from the caliper. Once it had cooled, I tried it again and it was as good as it gets. I usually bed them in just by using them but I'm one of these cyclists who slows down before braking so, now I know.

Re: Squealing disc brake

I’m reluctant to buy any more new pads as I’ve bought about four pairs in the last year.
The caliper’s been off and on umpteen times and I’m sure the mount doesn’t need faced as it was OK before.
It’s the way that it starts OK after a pad change then gradually gets worse again that it makes me think about an oil leak but I’ve found no evidence.
There’s no squealing or rubbing when I’m moving, only when coming to a stop.

Re: Squealing disc brake

The disc's done only about 1500 miles so I hope it's not worn.

Squealing disc brake

About a year ago, I fitted new resin rear disc brake pads on my hydraulic Shimano Deore BR-M615 caliper. Almost immediately, it was squealing as I came to a stop. I did everything according to Brucey's post viewtopic.php?t=116050 but to no avail. I've de-glazed the pads, cleand the rotor, checked for leaks and fitted several new pads but nothing worked. I also have reduced braking power. Then, about 3 months ago, I fitted sintered pads and everything seemed OK. Now it's back the same way, squealing when braking and loss of power so that I can pedal with the rear brake full on, and the lever is nowhere near the bar. I also now have Rohloff, so it's not even the same rotor. Should I try a new caliper?

Re: Cycling to a recycling centre

I've been cycling to the dump here in Glasgow for years. Nobody bats an eyelid, even when I cycled in with a Hoover on the rear rack.
