Re: Corona virus - impact on European tours in next 3 months?

We had a plan for family cycling holidays for beginning of April - will not happen I guess. However, I am not complaining as we are healthy. Some people were very unlucky.

i hope that the world changes for better after this all is finished. We should keep cars of the roads for sure ! Today I have cycled on a road that normally is super busy ans super dangerous. This was a truly liberating feeling. The air also smells nice !

Re: Iphone opencyclemap offline

I had OSMand on my old android and it worked well. I really liked that it had a night mode which was very useful after dark. I installed OSMand on Iphone and it was not working properly...

Bicycle touring with child - video - Scotland

Hello from Radek, Monika and Zuzzana

Sorry for the intrusion in the day-to-day bicycle touring chat!

We wanted to tell you about our youtube channel and webpage - Love Cycling Family (from Edinburgh). Our aim is to connect with people and inspire them to cycle with their kids, including bicycle touring with them. Bellow is the link to a video documenting one of our family cycling holidays. In the description of the video you will find links to our webpage and social media.

We are also wondering what do you think about bicycle touring with children?

Re: Last night I caught thieves breaking into bike sheds of a well known hostel

Well done ! Very brave of you.

I had once a guy trying to steal my bike. I went to a supermarket and could see the bike through the window. A junkey looking dude started hovering around my bike. He had a backpack and I bet that he had bolt cutters inside. I have approached him and asked what is going on . He then aks me if the bike was electric and do I have a problem. I told him to FO! I went ballistic and almost got into a fight with the guy. He run away :) My bike is my best friend and now way I will let anyone take it grrrr.

Iphone opencyclemap offline

Dear colleagues:)

I am wondering if anyone knows of a way or a app for iPhone that enables offline opencyclemap for gps navigation?

On android phone, I used to have Lucus app that allowed me to use opencyclemap offline but there is no Locus for iPhone... I really miss this app :(

Re: Trekking handlebars advice pls.

Have you considered raising your steerer? It would seem a lot simpler and get you more upright.

I did, but then I am not really using the drops almost at all. On the very odd occasion I use them to cut through strong headwind. I thought that maybe I could rise the angle of the steer and fit a velo orange crazy bar. Unfortunately, I do not have space for more spacers.

Re: Scottish Borders Bus service X62

Looks as if you can only get two bikes on and I would imagine like our X74 Dumfries > Glasgow there are times when substitute buses are on the route.

It would be for me, wife and our 4 year old bike tourist who has a weehoo. Perhaps, the weehoo could go into the language area.

Re: Trekking handlebars advice pls.

If yopu're tempted by butterfly bars I suggest very strongly that you try before you buy - despite the various hand positions I found them to be the work of Satan.

How can I try them if they are not fitted on my bike?

I am wondering if there is a well established touring butterfly bar something that someone can recommend ?

Trekking handlebars advice pls.

Hello colleagues!

I am looking to moving away from drop bards due to discomfort in the back... I want to have a more upright position. Is there any good model of trekking handlebars that one of you could recommend? I have done some research online, but now I feel overwhelmed by the choice available. I would also liked to transfer my thumb sifters to the new bar.

Re: Buying petrol for multifuel stove in UK

Glad you are happy with it. Personally I'll stick to my White Spirit - half the price, leaves no residue and has never clogged the jet :D. But maybe my 50-year-old stoves work differently.

It is very likely that it is much different. What is the name of the stove you have ? 50 year old sound quite interesting.

As long as you have dry tinder (like tinder card and a bit of newspaper) the wood can be damp but will dry out when is in the stove, it's like a mini-furnace so the heat will overtake the damp of the wood. My favourite tinder card is the Hammaro

This is a good tip. I have also seen on youtube that some people also use tree bark as tinder.

Re: Caledonian cycleway

I did the Caledonian Way (Inverness to Oban part) last year on Schwalbe 26 x 1.75 without any issues. If my memory is correct, along the Loch Lochy, there is a part of cycle route 78 which goes through a forest road that has some rock - nothing to technical. See the link bellow.

Have fun! It is a lovely part of Scotland !
