Getting bike back from John O'Groats
I'm going to be cycling to JOG in September. I'm then going to Inverness. I can get back easily by train or plain to Southampton but I'm finding it difficult to get my bike back as well. Is there somewhere I can post my bike from in Inverness or can you let me know how you all did it please? Cycling...

Re: gear ratio's
Wow, I haven't been able to get on here since I asked my question, you all have been very busy replying, sadly most of it has gone completely over my head. My bike is a Thorn Audax bike which I love, Thorn do offer an upgrade to either a 22t inner ring or 12-27 and also a 30-39-50 Tiagra 10sp upgrad...

gear ratio's
Hi everyone, I was on a cycle ride yesterday, going down hill, peddling as fast as I can in my highest gear and was passed by another person not peddling as fast as I was but who disappeared into the distance. My gears are 11-32 and 26-36-48, I never go down into the granny ring, which one of these ...

Re: gear range
Hi everyone, thank you for the very quick replies. I got the 11/36 from the Evans website and haven't looked at any others so thank you for putting me straight. I did think it was a big difference. Am I right in thinking the Specialized Dolce 24 for women is the same as the Specialized Allez 24 for ...

Please can someone tell me what the difference in gears are on these two bikes. Specialize Dolce 52/39/30 11/36 tooth casette Fuji Finesse 52/42/30 12/25 tooth cassette I don't understand the tooth cassette and what difference it would make to cycling, is one easier to ride up hill than the other, w...

Re: LEJOG Support Driver!
Are you not better off with a larger sized car with something like a Thule bike rack? I've been looking at vans as I was hoping to arrange a LEJOG with support but all the vans I've looked at have 3 seats at most and minibuses with seats taken out are very expensive plus fuel guzzlers. It would prob...

Re: Stupid Weather Forecasts (2)
I'm with you Mick, the weather forcast is complete rubbish. I saddly watch and check the weather forcast all the time. I watched the forcast before cycling a sportive, they forcast a sunny day with the odd shower. I put on light clothes and set off. It rained all morning and most of the afternoon. F...

Re: Has anyone tried a bike from Evans then sent it back
Thanks everyone for your replies. I live in Hampshire, the nearest is London. The problem I have is that there only seems to be one bike left in my size with Evans. The bike is sold out everywhere else and the new 2011 version is coming in which is £200 extra. By the time I've decided what to do the...

Has anyone tried a bike from Evans then sent it back
There is a Specialized bike that I would like to try from Evans, none of the bike shops near me have this bike. The problem is is that if I try it and don't like it will i be able to send it back. I know they have a 30 day trial of some bikes but not this one. They say you can send a bike back but o...

Thank you Thirdcrank, I will stick with what I've got at the moment, as I said before I think I'm just being a tad impatient.

Re: Chainsets and Cassettes
Yes, I am female, I'm 47yrs which is younger that most of those I ride with, 64kg, 5'6", this feels like the answers for a dating agency  . My tyres are Bontrager 700 x 28 race lite hardcase. I do think the problem is my fitness and not my bike now. My mileage is improving, I did 78miles l...

Re: Chainsets and Cassettes
Wow!! didn't expect so many replies back so quickly, thank you everyone. I think you are all probably right that it is down to my fitness, I think I'm quite fit but obviously not fit enough :( . I've changed my tyres to Bontrager, I think at about 100psi. I'm not overweight. I have been trying to ge...

Chainsets and Cassettes
I have a Thorn Audax Mk3, it's a lovely bike but I find on the slow side, it could be my fitness but I'm wondering if it maybe my chainser and cassette, my chainset is 26/36/48 and cassette is 11-32. I have been thinking about changing them but would it really make a difference. I very rarely go ont...
