Re: a Positive school policy
Just got our school to send an email advising all the parents not to sit outside with their engines running.
It is against road traffic act 1999, but more importantly bad for pollution, especially for the young.

I would like to point out that The Trek Madone 7 is Carbon framed. https://www.trekchicago.com/how-to/carbon-bicycle-and-component-care-pg193.htm Car Racks Car racks that clamp to the frame tubes should not be used because of the enormous loads concentrated in a small area. Likewise, when using rack...

Re: MPs clueless as to what would help active travel
It is pretty frustrating to keep talking about things but with little action. Firstly Leadership, see Boardman in Manchester. He sets a clear vision all 12 year olds can cycle and the infrastructure should be safe enough for them Next lets see the cash. HS2 £55Bn waste of money WITH NO CYCLE CROSSIN...

Re: Future of Urban Mobility
Just read Paul Tuohy Chief Executive at Cycling UK's article on the subject. Doesn't pull too many punches here.

Future of Urban Mobility
There is a government call for evidence on the Future of Urban Mobility. https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/future-of-mobility-call-for-evidence/future-of-mobility-call-for-evidence This call for evidence seeks views and evidence from all those with an interest in the mobility ecosystem. It...

Re: Banning cars around schools, the Vienna solution
We also need to stop the not so Yummy Mummies from parking outside with their engines on, before pickup time. This is illegal, road traffic act 1999 I think, but rarely enforced. Do we really need to add to the pollution near our childrens' schools? A 5 minute walk is the least they need to get star...

Re: Oxford - Milton Keynes - Cambridge
So Gilligan takes a look at three fast growing cities. Two of them have some of the highest shares of cycling in the country, and one the is the most car dependent. And his recommendation is that it is the first two that have the problem - so he will be busy making them more like the third! Hey Pet...

Re: Oxford - Milton Keynes - Cambridge
Hopefully this is very good news for cycling in Oxford, Milton Keynes, and Cambridge. I noticed this on the twitter feed of Andrew Gilligan: Andrew Gilligan @mragilligan · Jun 29 Glad to say my report for the National Infrastructure Commission on cycling in Oxford, Milton Keynes and Cambridge will...

Re: Bike racks on buses
I like the rack design. It is very versatile and quite intuitive and just like ours. https://auxtail.com/ If we want to get people out of cars, the we need some multimodal solutions and bikes on buses would certainly be a useful additional mode of transport. I am of the opinion that the swiss rear m...

Car sharing saves money so can increase car use, see Uber success. Private hire car growth in London is well aligned with introduction of Uber.

Re: High-Viz & day-lights
@Cunobolin Not sure I specified a low quality light. Any regulation would require a certain quality of light (colour and brightness) and visibility angles (no glare). Car lights have a E mark to show they meet the regulations. Probably a much better setup than currently. You could add extra lights i...

Re: Bike carriers on cars
HI Andy, Regulation 94/20 was replaced by Reg 55. This does not leglislate for cycle carriers, but does specify requirements for coupling devices(towbars). There are clearance zones defined in the regulation so perhaps these are infringed by the original rack designs (guessing). Anyway I would be re...

Re: High-Viz & day-lights
I think there is a strong case for mandating lights for all electric bikes, not just Speed Pedelecs. My logic is that the main reason I don't present lights is that I have to remove them from the bike and I forget to take them with me, despite leaving them by the front door. If they were fixed to th...
