Re: Left crank/pedal "clunk" at top of stroke, advice please

Good news, after re-greasing, re-fitting the left pedal it seems
all fixed.
Have done a 28 mile round trip today and not a single clunk or groan. Hopefully this will be good for a while now.

Many thanks for all the advice and suggestions. Hugely appreciated.

Re: Are cycling socks a waste of money?

Wiggle special offer, two pairs delivered for £10. Feel excellent quality.
Looking forward to giving them an outing this week.

Re: "Don't forget to wear a helmet"

Again, some very interesting commentary and thoughts on this subject, all taken in a digested by myself over the course of the day. I will still choose to wear my helmet though.... For reference, the children who were actively encouraged (or made) to wear helmets on their cycle to work had th...

That made me laugh! Wearing the tan lines of cycling with pride.

Re: "Don't forget to wear a helmet"

Wow. I didn't expect such a vigorous and personal attack after passing on my own experiences in this area. Clearly I have stumbled across a true hornets nest of opinion v fact v perceived fact. I truly respect your opinions, and your interpretation of the reported facts. If you feel no need for a he...

Re: Are cycling socks a waste of money?

Found some dhb merino socks on Wiggle at £5 a pair, half price. Worth a try, so ordered some. If they are hype and no good, they still look like decent socks.

Re: "Don't forget to wear a helmet"

Interesting reading indeed. Possibly I'm a generally risk adverse person, wanting to tick as many boxes as possible, particularly after a reasonably grim personal experience. Everything we as humans do has a risk factor, sleeping, waking, walking, eating, etc. However, most of us take some care in t...

Re: "Don't forget to wear a helmet"

I'm a new user on here, so forgive me if I over step the mark or break any forum etiquette... The idea of getting on a bike and NOT wearing a helmet is beyond my sphere of concept and imagination. Having previously commuted across a busy city, Birmingham, the chance of being flung across a bonnet an...

Re: Does anyone know.....are cycling socks a waste of money?

I hadn't taken the compression effect into account when thinking about this. Makes sense though.
Certainly worth a try then. Off to Aldi after work then.....!

Re: Does anyone know.....are cycling socks a waste of money?

That's what I was thinking....thanks for the great response.
Might buy one pair and compare any difference in feel and heat/comfort between them and regular running socks.

I've found the Shimano shoes pretty stiff, but as the velcro tabs fit securely, I don't feel too much movement during cycling.

Re: Giant Defy 3 (2010) vs Trek Domane AL2

Hi. I'm new here as well, am moving from a Giant hybrid to a road bike soon. I've gone for a Merida Ride 300 as a road bike, a decent compromise between speed, comfort and handling from what I've read. Only been on a turbo with the ones in the bike shop, but I got the impression it was a good balanc...

Are cycling socks a waste of money?

I'm beginning to get the cycling bug well and truly, currently riding a Giant hybrid, but have a road bike on the way in three weeks. On the learning curve that is SPD pedals and shoes, a few hairy moments, but fingers crossed no scars as of yet... I see a lot of ads for cycling socks, and am wonder...

Re: Left crank/pedal "clunk" at top of stroke, advice please

I've done 45 mins on the turbo, trying to replicate the feeling.
Either the refitting of the pedal has sorted it, or the turbo won't generate enough of a real road load to the crank/pedal.

Re: Left crank/pedal "clunk" at top of stroke, advice please

Thank you for the response. I bought the Shimano pedals "as new" from eBay. They have never been fitted or used, obvious from the packaging and pedal. Maybe I have a faulty one. Will strip and grease to see if this removes the fault, as well as a trip with the flat pedals to see if this is...
