Re: Extinction Rebellion

In nearby Henley on Thames they reckon theres a road vehicle pollution problem. And in Sonning on Thames at the single track lights controlled Thames Bridge right by Clooneys house theres a problem too. Its not only in cities, anywhere stationary vehicles are idling at lights and spitting out fumes...

Re: A day of low pollution.

Eat seasonal food, lots of cherries soon, apples and plums later, stockpile potatoes.. Cugel, are you a net contributor to the grid? (electric, or all energy?). If so, how much does it cost to achieve that? .. 'I am determined to cut my expenses, whatever it costs!' said a wise (?) person  We...

Re: Talk of old vehicles

I remember it was so cold in it one winter he cut a hole in the dashboard and ran a pope from the engine to provide some heat. A red hot Pope! Fresh out of Notre Dame no doubt. Sorry I'll get me coat - yet again. Up until the 70's it was quite common to have a catholic priest of Bishop rank or high...

Re: Ssh, bikes have ears!

Off for a pleasant ride today on my winter bike (Ravi the Raven, Rolloff) and paused at the top of one of the many steep hills around here to disrobe somewhat. I mentioned to Mrs. Copy that I would probably take my summer bike Brigitte (Thorn Brevet) on our forthcoming mini Tour de Shropshire. Sett...

Re: A day of low pollution.

There are alternatives, solar panels discarded from buildings being demolished for example, are prices still falling? One can do the right thing even if it costs more, but maybe the solar panels last so long that it does not cost more even without subsidy No-one knows. Yet :? There are many ways to...

Re: E-Bikes rules/Law

Read an advertorial in the local paper, a middle-aged journalist who doubtless could have used a standard cycle took a test ride on an e-bike offered at € 2500 The salesperson put the switch to 'turbo', 'that is the most fun' he enthused, 'it helps one reach 25 kmh in a few seconds' The article des...

Re: shared use

Locally, they use a mix of orders that are enfoced. Cyclepaths have been designated and it is illegal to have a dog on one withoit a lead, there ae rstrictions on lead length and also you cna be fined for walking more than 4 dogs. A silly situation requiring oodles of tedious laws, all caused by th...

TSO Train-shaped-object (brynpoeth) Air-conditioned bus on flanged wheels that thinks it is a train :? Or "toilet shaped object" as in a Virgin train. They always smell of one, no matter which bit you're in. Apparently the air conditioning inlet duct of a carriage is right next to the toi...

R2. Not talking of roll-down tests. Not talking of energy expended uphill or downdale. I'm saying that I remain to be convinced due to my experiences with others freewheeling down long gentle hills. Maybe 15-20mph on the tops relaxed and chatting side by side freewheeling. You pick the hill. Not st...

Re: ** The Brexit Thread ** - 'Brexit Means Brexit'

We should aim for about a dozen options. That way we can have another undecisive poll and we can faff about for three more years and get nowhere. And so ad infinitum. But Brexit will still mean Brexit. Wot the people voted for. Wot some people may(or may not) have voted for..... what we have now is...

Re: Extinction Rebellion

For those concerned about the right answer, since it is obviously so important to them, I can tell you that 41 angels can sit on the nose of a 747 without it using more than one extra litre of fuel. The angels do this so everyone can know how easy it is to be good. It works like this: Instead of bei...

Re: ** The Brexit Thread ** - 'Brexit Means Brexit'

Every brexit problem is rooted in a lack of honesty, including the second referendum campaign. Perhaps the second referendum should comprise the three options: ⋅ REMAIN ⋅ LEAVE ⋅ MAYBE Would that be 'honest'? What if your favoured option loses? What does "maybe&qu...

Re: ** The Brexit Thread ** - 'Brexit Means Brexit'

Not wanting to lose face? As in Tory party leaders not wanting to lose even more votes to UKIP/Farage's New Folly? The political calculation that for May to do a U-turn now would split the Tory vote forever and relegate it to third place for the foreseeable future? The Labour Party seems to be stru...
