Re: Swytch and other front wheel drives - QR or bolt through?

If the motor is 250w rated then for front hub use a nice set of steel forks, one then doesn't have to faff with torque arms.
Surly Disk Truckers are ideal.

I wouldn't touch one of those liitokala with the preverbial, cheap china junk using crap cells and electronics.

Re: Trailer vs panniers

Panniers x 4 and rear rack for items that will fit , if anything larger or too heavy then I have two trailers .

For trails if needing a trailer and QR then the Burley coho might work but load/weight capacity isn't great.

Re: Silly horses

I was on the Worth Way last week and stopped /pulled over as I could see it was a bit skittish , likely because of the two flags on my trailer flag pole . As I conversed with the young lass riding said steed and to try and also pacify the steed, it was something new that the horse was afraid of. As we spoke the young lass thanked mef or stopping and chatting she said ' I will have to add flags to his training'.
My wifes late horse was generally ok with a lot of road objects , but if leaf blew along the ground it would become such a wuss.
All one can do is give them as much room as poss and ask if it it ok to pass or approach, don't do so stealthily but try and converse with the rider as the steed can hear you as well.

I don't care if there's a sign for bicycles or not -- if the roads too dangerous I'll be on the footpath dismounting when necessary. I'll pay the fine if it ever happens -- at least I'll still be here to do that.

Back in 1999 the then Home Secretary Paul Boeteng ruled "The introduction of the fixed penalty is not aimed at responsible cyclists who sometimes feel obliged to use the pavement out of fear of traffic and who show consideration to other pavement users when doing so".
The ruling still stands today as it hasn't been rescinded, the important bit being the ( consideration to other pavement users when doing so).

Re: Wheel hub identification please.

The 36v hub will run fine at 48v, though 32kmh/20mph is the optimum speed at 48v unless one is climbing long /steep hills heating or inafficacy won't show it's head. Typically efficacy is at approx. 70 - 80% of the running speed.

Yes the Shengyi brand is a good motor, the higher the voltage one uses the less current one needs so typically use 33% less current for 48v vs 36v.

Re: Front hub slip

Can't see the film as it ask's one to log in.

As with many of these small wheeled bikes the motor is a cheap generic weak /low nm 24v hub. One suspects the internal clucth is sticking or possibly some wear on the planet gears, it will need internal inspection to see if anything stands out.

Re: Wheel hub identification please.

The hub is Shengyi brand , the voltage and wheel size is likely 36v 28".
SYH2S = Shengyi hub 2 x spoke or china talk for 2 cross. 3628v = voltage/wheel size.

Typically the wheel will run at any voltage but for 25kmh, 36v will be the correct voltage for 25kmh rating.

Re: Converting a Thorn Nomad to a mid drive motor

Tsdz2 is only outwardly a copy as are all the other bafang clones from, mxus, aikema, lingei, gospade & yalu.
A part from outwardly looking nearly similar the tsdz2 internally is far the same , it uses the nicer Torque sensing instead of cadence PAS also the internal gear reduction is far superio. So nic eand so good that it rides so much better then the bafang without power that one can sometimes forget they aren't actually using any power , something that can't be said for the heavier gearing of the bafang.
Imv the tsdz2 sits nicer on the bike then the bafang because of it slighty smaller size.

Yes I had a devil of a job with the Lenovo small laptop , it simply would not upload JAVA to the pc registry. All the other system uploads were fine with no issue.
In the end older defunct W8 note book uploaded JAVA just fine.

Not for the first time either, another UK guy had the same issue which I read about on ES.

If it has a Bosh drive then only Giant can repair it and not any old Bosh dealer, so being because Giant use their own CANbus system and not the Bosh one.

Re: Overtaking

It is quite noticeable that the cycle way (sc3) used in the main by cycling commuters is used with very little difference then drivers on the road. More so that some others think they are faster and better at riding and take undue risks putting others in peril.
All that has happened is the road mentallity of a car driver has morphed over to the cycle lane.

With bi directional travelling on a quite narrow cycle lane , it is totally bonkers that some of the cyclists need to try and prove they are so called faster and better.

At one point one or two cyclists spill out on to the main carriageway , being very fortunate they weren't struck by any passing vehicle traffic on which looks like a buse lane.

Re: Heat in the home

Since the wife and I moved in to our current abode some 22 years ago( built 1958) I have never done any thing about the downstairs hall east facing glass entrance door & sidelight in to the cold porch in winter and the sauna porch in summer, like wise the west facing rear glass door. The kitchen and hall are open plan and the front door opposing the rear door , the kitchen is always cold and hall mediocre with a rad adj to the door. Both doors are draft proof and draught free but boy does the heat cool quickly when it hits all that doule glazed glass.
Finally this week I feel a placebo affect as I have fitted some simple thermal door curtains easily fixed with velcro to both the east and west glass doors, next plan is also to add some reflextive window film to the glass door for the summer as from the west the sun heats the kitchen up terribly . Another window overlooked is the stair landing window on a southerly aspect this gets the high sun from april/ may till August /sept so another to get some reflective window film added.

Currently sitting in the living room with no heat on and the 15c feels very comfy.

Re: Clockwise or Anticlockwise?

If I cylce the S/downs it is off the SDW and c/w routes, other wise most of my routes I do are a/c/w.

My longest route is approx.104 miles acw which I save for nice bright days taking in the NDW once I traverse the 18 miles to Dorking , then the Downs Link the other side of Newlands Corner which I take all the way in to Shoreham aerodrome. A ride via the harbour bridge crossing along the front to Ovingdean and then up past near the AMEX and over the downs where I eventually drop in to Hassocks area either via Ditchling or the Windmills then it is another 20 odd miles mainly up hill to home.
