Re: SKF BB Installation.

How did you decide which skf spindle length to go for, given they don't have the same spindle (a)symmetry as the UN's of the same length? The limiting factor in this case is the chain ring teeth almost touching the chain stay, so I picked a length that's a tad wider than the UN (taking into account...

SKF BB Installation.

Hi after finding my current shimano bb giving up the ghost after only 9? months I invested in a skf über expensive bb. The installation blurb is a bit ambiguous to say the least! My main points of confusion are: 1. the bb fits 73mm shell and has a spacer for 68mm. Does the spacer go drive side? 2. T...

Re: Replacing UN72 with UN55

Hi All, Many thanks for all the informative replies, armed with this info' Ive just attacked the beast again. Here's a few interesting points... The thorn (which we've owned from new) has undoubtedly got a 68mm shell (as pointed out by beardy) The old BB seems is marked 73mm but has one of those LH ...

Replacing UN72 with UN55

Hi, I've just been attempting to replace the UN72 on my partner's thorn with a UN55, to find that the left hand cup doesnt go all the way in by a lot...perhaps 5-7mm. I've definitiely got the dimensions correct, which I took from the UN72 I took out (110mm x 73mm). Any ideas would be very much appre...

Re: Wheel Building Horror - HELP!

Hi, The original Pringle that started this thread wouldn't disappear on slackening spokes by the amount that caused the Pringle and i ended up starting again. The wheel doesn't seem to have suffered from the experience (unlike myself) and has been strong and true for several hundred miles. Regards m...

Hi I never did bend those pliers...but these are cheap http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/bbb-open-link-closing-link-tool-btl77/rp-prod47439 but would they work with a 8/9 speed SRAM link?

Can i ask a question too? Is the troll really so stiff that you need these enormous tyres for comfort?

Re: V brakes and sti levers?

You see how Planet X have got CR720s on at half price? That is because nobody wants them any longer. They've got V brakes on at quarter price. That must mean people want them even less :? http://www.planet-x-bikes.co.uk/i/q/BCTEM15V/tektro_m15_v_brake Hi I'm looking to replace the suntour cantis on...

Re: Front light for disused railway line

I tried my ixon iq this morning on my commute which takes me up an converted railway line which is entirely over hung with trees, covered in leaf mulch and branches and the odd downed tree...i'm very happy with it, it provides plenty of light where you need it, enough even in the wet. I should say t...

Re: Track Pump Connectors

Hi Mick, Ive got the topeak head too and have often wondered about this exact problem. I was wondering though is the loss of air on disconnecting is actually pressure from inside the pump and not the tyre. Does the tyre actually go flat if you leave the head on the valve and turn to disconnect? I'll...

Re: Road bike suggestion please?

if you've a dodgy back I'd consider buying a frame/fork having it built up (or doing it yourself if you've the inclination) so the fork steerer isn't cut too low for fashion reasons. I went this root with a Surly Crosscheck building it up myself wasn't very hard (especially this all the great advice...

Re: Advice on Mudguards full length to fit Surly Troll - ple

Thanks for the pics: this is definitely my pin up bike of the moment! You clearly carry a good bit of gear, how does the bike handle loaded up? One last question...those bridge extensions you're using...did you have to fabricate them form scratch of did you find something you could easily modify for...

Re: Advice on Mudguards full length to fit Surly Troll - ple

I've just fitted some sks mudguards to my troll. They were the wide 26" wide version. Lots of room around my 1.75 schwalbe land cruiser tyres. Given the huge tyre clearance of the frame you will need to fabricate some long brackets for the bridges. I gave up on the stupid plastic covers for th...
