Re: Heathrow and car rental question

Yep, that was me!
Last year we took a bus from Heathrow to Portsmouth. It worked quite well. But looking for a vehicle option to get around and visit before the ferry.

Heathrow and car rental question

Since we live "across the pond" I was hoping that the UK cycling crowd might be able to help. If we fly into Heathrow are there rental vehicles available that would accommodate 2 large bike boxes? Starting to think about next year's tour and part would be driving to visit a few friends the...

Consider trying Cycle Travel for routing. It will show different types of lodging along the way. Also Archie's app for campgronds.

Re: Belgium - Guides/GPS/Maps.

We just came back from a 3 month Europe tour with Belgium being a part of it. We use a Garmin 800 along with Cycle Travel for route planning. I also have paper maps as my wife is the navigator.
The GPS and Cycle Travel is a great combo!

Re: Commuting and touring saddle alternatives to the old B17?

What about the Bertoud? I have B17' s and just last week returned from a 3 month Europe tour. Got my first ever saddle sore and rode with it for the last 800 miles. Not sure how I got it but during that period I was wondering about a Giles Bertoud saddle!

SKS chainguard question

Wondering if anyone has the Chainbow chainguard? Wondering how much adjustable length there is? Can't really tell from their website.
Thanks!

Re: Gates Belt Drive question.

Ivor, thanks for your reply!
Here bike has a split frame and is on Rohloff's list. Your suggestion about the Herbie is a good idea. I think I will give that a go.
The only concern I have is I can't monitor the chain to know when to take up the slack.

Re: Gates Belt Drive question.

My wife's bike has a Rohloff at present. But she has probation on her right ankle and she can't keep from getting chain lube all over. I usually use wax lube but we have been touring in Europe for 3 months and wax lube was not available when I needed more.
So thus the belt drive idea!

Gates Belt Drive question.

Considering changing my wife's touring bike to belt drive. Is there a website that would show the way to get a great inch range?
Thanks!!
