Re: Heathrow or Gatwick?

Thanks for your replies! But it appears I would have to pay a hefty fee to change our tickets. So we will do repeat what we did in 2018. Fly into Heathrow and use National Express to Portsmouth. Last time we had our bikes in plastic bags and it worked fine. This time we will use boxes. We are flying...

Re: Heathrow or Gatwick?

I did know about the train! In 2018 we flew into Heathrow and took a bus to Portsmouth. A train might be preferable!
Thanks!!

Re: Heathrow or Gatwick?

We did it from Heathrow in 2018. I recall if was a bit of a like from picking up our stuff to the bus. I left my wife and scoped out the "route" then can back and off we went! National Express runs from both airports to Portsmouth and it would be 1 hour less on a bus. Just wondering how mu...

Heathrow or Gatwick?

If one had to choose between the two airports to arrive at on an international flight. Which is preferable?
We will then go by bus to Portsmouth with bikes and gear.
Thanks!

Re: Revisiting a route suggestion!

The boxes are cardboard ebike boxes. I would prefer to find a place that will hold them as it eliminates having to take the time to source one at the end of a tour.

Re: Revisiting a route suggestion!

We have been flying Iceland air and they have a generous bike box size. So last year, had to leave them in Helsinki, I got ebike boxes and "modified" them with straps and buckles. Makes it easy for TSA inspector in the US. So they are full size boxes that a bike comes in. Don't have the dim...

Revisiting a route suggestion!

For an upcoming tour ,in France, I am researching ways to get from Heathrow to the coast. In an earlier post I asked about Folkestone. I had a number of great replies but maybe I need bto look at other options. Two years ago we took National Express to ports and that worked. But have another idea of...

Re: Heathrow to Folkestone??

OP here.
It seems like we just consider doing the Heathrow to Portsmouth via National Express. It worked out well last time. Just need to locate a place to store our bike boxes for 2 months!
Thanks for all your replies!

Re: Heathrow to Folkestone??

Don't we know!!
Two years ago we took Nation Express to Portsmouth from Heathrow. It worked great! But this route appears a bit more challenging.
Would you have some suggestions on car hires??
Thanks!

As we start planning next year's tour we have the idea of flying from the US to Heathrow. Then making our way out to Folkestone. There is a WarmShower host who would store our bike boxes. Then ferry to France. I looked at the National Express bus but there are 2 changes to get there. Not sure how th...
