Re: Long Range Weight Gain?

I was fortunate enough to ride an event which Mark was on a few years ago, and got chatting to him. One thing he did say, is that it’s very difficult to plan your fuelling, when you have little understanding of the availability and nutritional values of a particular region’s available food. He said ...

Re: loose nut on crankshaft, but tighten too much and can't pedal

Spooky, was about to post exactly the same question! After replacing most of my drivetrain and front derailleur, the bolt securing the drive side crank is now loosening after my daily commute. Not sure if everything's just not quite been secured properly (by me) or if the crank is worn as has been ...

Re: Why the sudden urge to ride bikes on gravel?

Some marketing types, invented a type of bike that wasn’t necessary. People spent money on them. Now they are justifying the expenditure.

Re: He just passed me saying nothing

I stopped to help a young laydeee last week who’d managed to put a slice in the side wall of her tyre. I always carry a spare ( cheapo ) folding tyre, when I’m out on a longer ride. I gave it to her ( it came with a wheel set I bought last year, so I wasn’t really bothered about it) she was most gra...

Re: Lost cadence

The only metric I really care about is my heart rate. There’s an equivalence with power, and I don’t need cadence or torque sensors. I can count to 15 without too many problems, so every now and again I can see ( roughly ) what my cadence is, should I become interested, for any reason.

Re: Shimano press fit bottom brackets

The reason the manufacturers usually give for using PF type BBs is that it enables them to have more flexibility ( as in choice ) in their moulded frame designs. Why a steel frame would qualify is anyone’s guess.

Re: Overtaking roadies?

^ That is very strange. What was the nature of "the load of grief" ? i.e. What is there to complain about ? I think he must have been having a bad day. If he’d shot past and kept going, fair enough, but to struggle past, slow down, and then get the hump when I went on my way, was strange....

Re: Overtaking roadies?

I had my favourite type of thing happen to me at the weekend. I was riding a fairly undulating route, on my big old heavy hybrid. The inevitable ‘road warrior’ appeared, and broke his backside trying to get past, then instantly ‘blew up’ ( metaphorically speaking ) and was then just in the way, and ...

Re: Scientists say high cadence is inefficient

………. ‘Conventional wisdom’ seemed to dictate that high force high Cadence cycling was a predominately Glycogen fuelled, it’s been proven that it isn’t, and why . .......... Please show me exactly where it says high force isn't down to glycolysis. I have read and re-read https://www.active.com/cycli...

Re: Who makes your bike and is it important

At the lower end of the price range I don’t think it matters much. Same old same old with different stickers. The high end stuff is not that though. So it depends exactly which part of the range you’re at, as to how much it matters.

Re: Scientists say high cadence is inefficient

That seems like it says more or less what Colin said, only it specifies which type of muscle is using the glycogen. Yes and no. It also explains why anyone who thinks that high force, low cadence cycling will deplete fat reserves over Glycogen is wrong, and why exactly the opposite is true. ‘Conven...

Re: Scientists say high cadence is inefficient

The whole point of the initial article was that it's inefficient to ride at a high cadence in a low gear if you're not outputting enough watts. Yes, I know. When Chris Froome climbs a hill in a low gear with a high cadence, he's putting out enough power so that he's still at almost at peak efficien...

Hi, Clearly fantasy, average 300 what for power over 100 miles? Graph lack units to those figures? A lot of complete stops in speed? Yeah, total fantasy. You clearly know your stuff  https://i.imgur.com/rqY4UtY.jpg Say hello to my little friend. For avoidance of doubt, those were his plots.
