This is the one i got

https://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-Electrical ... SwWLBZ805K

Done all sorts in it in the past from dried fruit to beef jerky
If you dip the fruit in lemon juice before dehydrating it, it stops it turning brown too :D

I used to get mine from the Indian shop, but they no longer stock them, so I'll have to look elsewhere. A friend brought be some back from Thailand, but I can't rely on that source.

Is it possible to dry your own?
Or are special bananas/a special process involved?

I don't know, but the dried ones I was buying were a lot cheaper than the same number of fresh bananas.

OK, I'll try to dry one and see what happens. What do you think - low oven or hung up in a sunny window?

I got a dehydrator from ebay 5 teir for 20 quid can do all sorts with it

Re: Eating on the bike

Ok so pretty much a decent brecky and i should be good to go.

I might take a couple cereal bars, the mrs gets them soft belvita breakfast cookies mmmm just incase i feel like i need something.

Drink wise id rather avoid sugar if i can so 2 500ml bottles of cordial and salt should see me through

Re: Eating on the bike

Well i went out last week and done 20miles felt crap all day after and lethargic, no breakfast but had lucozade sport during ride.

Weekend just gone done the same, alot more hills but had breakfast 45mims before, lucozade sport during first hr then 2 jelly babies last half hr, just cos i had them really.
I felt really good during the ride and much better after too.
Probally more because i had breakfast, next week like i say i will try orange cordiall and salt and some raisins see how i feel.
Even tho its only 20 miles or 1.5hrs, because ive only been doing it for 3 weeks im pushing quite hard for 70% of the ride but ideally i dont want to be having unnecessary sugar if i can help it

Seriously a good breakfast. If out for a longish ride I would consider 1.5-2 hours the sort of time I would ride before a cafe stop, ie 15-25 miles.
Does the event you plan to ride have any stops mid way?
Proper breakfast, carry a banana or similar, unless racing 50-100mile events I only ever carry water in my bottle.... I would not use anything in my bottle that is 'gassy'. Tea / coffee, cake / toasted t-cake / beans on toast / soup is adequate re-fuelling at a cafe stop....

Yeah I think it has stops along the way it's the South Downs Sportive lots of hills from what I've heard

I think I might try just water and squash with a little bit of salt for my drink and just takes the mini packs of raisins just in case I need them

Thanks for all the advice guys

Re: Eating on the bike

Ok thanks for the ideas, ive been so paranoid about crashing and running out of energy ive been having too much i think, normally eat healthy so i will cut out the sports drink and have water with squash and a dash of salt.
I normally have a bowl of granola or peanut butter on toast before i go so ill keep doing that.

Ill pick up some dried fruit, i like that idea and take a banana too

Ill prob still hide away some jelly babies in my saddle bag just incase haha

Eating on the bike

So as my miles are going up and my rides are getting longer im starting to think about eating while im out.

Im doing about 20miles at the moment which takes about 1.5hrs, should i be eating or drinking anything other than water?

Ive singed up for my first event in april, 35miles and im trying to get it all dialed in

Im thinking along the lines of first hr nothing but water, second hr a bottle of lucazade and third hr start eating jelly babbies 2 every 20mins? Sound ok? Overkill?

Any advice much appreciated

0xymoron wrote:Sounds like you'll just need the speed (& cadence) sensor then.

BUT: check if the sensor you're looking at is bluetooth or Ant+ (or it might be both, I suppose - I don't know the Wahoo sensor); if it's Ant+ only (which it may well be) you'll need an Ant+ dongle, obviously.

Zwift will work with blutooth or Ant+, and Windows, mac, iOS or Android (I think), but not all combinations work I believe. I've only ever used Ant+ and Windows, so I can't give you any advice about other combinations.

If your laptop is 2-3 years old it should work OK, but Zwift is quite hard work on the graphics so you may not get brilliant graphics. I have run Zwift on a 3 year old laptop, and it's perfectly usable.

Thanks, i went with garmin speed and cadence sensor and ordered the ant dongle and extention too!

Yeah my laptop is about that age 3yrs ish, not too fussed about the graphics its just to beat the bordom really!

Thanks again

Zwift

I've just picked up a magnetic elite volare trainer and I'm wondering how I would go about using zwift with it as I find it a bit confusing

What would I need to get it up and running and is it even worth it with this type of trainer?

Thanks

Ok ill use the one that came with it then thanks

Ok thanks

Ive picked one up for £40. A volare elite

Got a question though, it came with a quick realise pin thingy for the back wheel, do i need to use that as the bike has that anyways?
