Do you want a case or any other additional protection on the iPhone?

Jonathan
The phone is already in a protective case so just a decent mount. Thanks

Also I presume most of the popular apps tell you actual current speed as I like to see that

Re: iPhone tracking app?

Sorry to hi jack

I’ve been looking at used garmins on eBay today, then I found this thread which got me thinking about my phone (iPhone X)

I’m just looking for basic info, distance travelled, time taken, speed etc, nothing fancy.

What app would be good for that? And also can anyone recommend a bracket to hold my phone to handlebar so it’s visible when riding?

It’s a boardman adv 8.8 that had schwalbe g one all round 40mm fitted. I fitted the above 28mm variant

Re: Tyre size options

Received new tyres and tubes.

A task and a half for me to fit, so tight to get on.

Anyhow I inflated to 6bar and ventured out.

Initial thoughts, they are surprisingly smooth and roll much better than previous tyres, don’t feel too harsh at all considering the size difference from originals

Thanks for all replies.

Re: Tyre size options

Removed tyre and measured inner rim width (19mm) so should be good with 28mm tyres.

The current tubes are 35-43mm so will need new tube also. What differences will I experience between a 28 and 32mm tyre?

Also how would these rate for me?

I’m a newbie road cyclist and not covering loads of miles 15-20miles per outing currently.

Yes. measure the width of the rim, and then use one of the compatibility tables:

Sheldon Brown:

Schwalbe:

Jonathan
I’ve looked at the wheels and there are no markings on them. Would I need to remove the tyre and measure width at bead?

The current tyres marked as 40-622

Re: Tyre size options

Ok so I’ve decided I would like to try a set of 28mm road tyres with decent puncture protection.

I’ve put a wtb post up as don’t want to spend a lot.

If I’m unsuccessful with that what would you all recommend as a decent budget road tyre.

Re: Tyre size options

I probably won’t change them after reading all the comments

The tyres and bike are brand new but because I am using it only on the road just now I thought I might see a good bit of extra performance from a narrower road type tyre. Seems that’s not the case so I will keep the originals for now.

Re: Tyre size options

It currently has Schwalbe G-One allround, 700x38c tyres fitted

I guess the general consensus is I will not see much difference in road performance by fitting 25/28mm tyres instead? Only a reduction in ride comfort ?

Re: Tyre size options

I blew the tyres up today before going out to 60psi, the tyre sidewall says 45-70psi but I didn’t want to blow up to 70 as I wasn’t sure on correct pressure

Re: Tyre size options

I was hoping to see improvement in speed/distance covered

Would I see much benefit? If any?

Sorry I’m new to road cycling so not very clued up on it all

Tyre size options

I have a boardman adv 8.8 which is fitted with 38mm tyres.

I’m currently predominantly using it on the road and wondered what tyre option would be better suited for it,and what tube size I should use with them?

I presume the standard wheels will accept various tyre sizes?

Would I see a big difference in changing to thinner tyres ?

St-R3000 sora shifter

I have just picked up my first drop bar bike, namely a Boardman ADV 8.8

It has Sora group set 2x9 sp

My question is, it doesn’t appear like the shifters actually indicate which gear you are in?

It’s the first bike I’ve ever been on that doesn’t indicate this? Is this indeed the case or am I missing something?
