Re: visa more than 30 days for China

You asked where I went. First trip: I flew into Guilin, then cycled through the minorities areas to Kali. Train to Kunming and on to New Dali. Cycled to Old Dali and on to Lijiang. Then cycled down to Jinhong. Toured around area and to Burma border. Then boat down Mekong to Thailand. Renewed visa i...

Re: visa more than 30 days for China

Bit of a long one, but I know an American cyclist who got a long visa, 6 months I think. You may want to have a look at US Chinese visa sites to see if there is anything that could help. (When China US got friendly, they had very good visa arrangements - no such luck with UK. Its all reciprocal and ...

Re: visa more than 30 days for China

Yes, an attested invitation letter from a Chinese national together with photocopies of both sides of their national id card. If memory serves me well this information is somewhere in the CVASC website. We all applied from the CVASC in London. No need for stating the other stuff, but some of the of...

Re: visa more than 30 days for China

Re: visa more than 30 days for China

Hi, In 2017 my son who has a UK passport got a 2 year visa with a 90 day limit on each visit. This is how it was done: I have an Indian passport and at that time (2017) and prior I had university of Sheffield short duration work in Nanjing for several years, obtaining the usual academic visa for Ch...

Re: Sweden

Hi, lived in Stockholm: food and drinks are expansive (75 sek for a cider if I remember correctly). Supermarket stuff is ok-ish in terms of price (but good quality mostly) It's very easy to get around in cities by bike, not necessarily so in the countryside: not that many roads, although down south ...

Re: Anyone toured near Chamonix?

Hello from there-ish. Agree with Sanderton, and avoid the D13 road (it's very busy, and locals drive crazy fast on it). From Servoz head north on D143 (steep climb), and use the landrover track to drop to Passy. Back to the other side via Combloux (nice village) Very crowded around Annecy in the sum...

visa more than 30 days for China

hello! husband (UK citizen) and I (FR citizen), both living in the UK and applying to the Chinese visa center in Edinburgh, are planning to go on a tour in Asia. Ideally, we would like to spend 3 months in China (I have multiple chinese business visas on my passport, husband doesn't) Has anyone of e...

Re: snapped brake boss/pivot on fork

I'm in Edinburgh, I have a TIG welder and know how to use it. I'd be happy to do the Brucey repair for some beer Super sweet of you: I think it looks like now I will buy a new fork, as we are leaving in 2 months and still have tons of things to sort out, and later on will fix the fork that's damage...

Re: snapped brake boss/pivot on fork

Re Tim b's concerns; as I mentioned upthread, the repair scheme I have outlined will give a boss that is at least as strong as it was originally. 1) that you need to be fairly careful when tightening canti boss bolts. If you have brakes with integral pivot bushings the bolt exerts a tension force o...

Re: snapped brake boss/pivot on fork

Even more so now you have said you intend to put leave on a long tour I would personally suggest you forget a diy repair, Bosses for screw in pivots are slightly more substantial than pure braze on ones where the pivot screws in. So even if you flush and thread, you aren't going to have a lot of in...

Re: snapped brake boss/pivot on fork

re drilling and tapping the boss so that a threaded insert can be used; it depends entirely on how the boss is constructed, as to whether there will be enough 'meat' to screw the insert into once you have done the repair. This is far from guaranteed to be the case. fastenings need to be set at low ...

Re: snapped brake boss/pivot on fork

Is the pivot bolt in the pic stuck? No the bold is fine, I just leave it there so that the pivot doesn't change shape Not sure how it would change shape but anyway. Personally, given what others have said about this particular fork having an integral pivot boss arrangement. I'd be beating down the ...

Re: snapped brake boss/pivot on fork

on some forks the boss unscrews so that everything forwards of the plate with three holes in comes off. You can identify such forks because the shoulder at the base of the boss has two flats on it. I'll be honest I don't think your forks are like that, but do check to be sure. replacement pivot bos...
