Re: James's 8 day lejog 28th June - 7th July.

Hi James, Is your room always that much of a mess? :P Wash and wear is my maxim whatever kind of trip I am doing. Although the caveat is it all depends on the dryness of the environment. For a wet/damp climate such as Britain, drying might present an issue. Anyway, take two of everything. Lightweigh...

Re: Another route suggestion post (sorry)

Decision made! I've paid the deposit for the ten day Peak Tour starting 21 August. I was intending to go for the 24 July start, but missed the single room option on that date. The reasoning that tipped this was several: For less than the cost of shipping my bike box across the pond and back plus the...

Re: Another route suggestion post (sorry)

Guided tour groups usually don't allow that - Both Peak and the Great Bear Tours acknowledge you will probably go off route and Great Bears in particular say they don't' care as long as you end up each night at the proper place. Peak Tours only have a SAG wagon following (Great Bears don't) and nei...

Re: Another route suggestion post (sorry)

Yup, all there, thanks. I'll do a read.

Still undecided about the Peak tour, but I'll need to decide ASAP or there will be no places left.

Re: Another route suggestion post (sorry)

I mean a dedicated site for lejog or cycle touring. If you could get the accommodation, adjust route and timings accordingly, to what is available, and just go, it would take a headache out of the trip. That is part of my reasoning. The other is that going independent I would have to unpack my bike ...

Re: Another route suggestion post (sorry)

Disadvantages: it's someone else's route plan and timings. Less say in what you do, potentially removing any aspect of spontaneity or leeway in case of inclement weather. One benefit could be that having the night's stop all arranged, a confident/experienced rider is free to meander off route at wi...

Re: Another route suggestion post (sorry)

Just a question. Most of the postings are for solo attempts, working your own route, finding accommodation, etc. And that is what my plan is/was. But what do the experienced folk think of just doing a tour such as Peak Tours puts on? Pricey? yes! but very convenient and no accommodation to look for,...

Re: Cafes as Audax controls

ATM receipts, photos taken of the stop with a time stamp, open location control points are all possibles. I have signed the card myself if the control is busy. I have never ridden a brevet where a volunteer sits at a control, it's always petrol stations or the like or an information control.

Re: Big Bike revival ... yet more helmet normalising!

There is no question that a lot of these anti helmet comments are silly. If you don't want to wear a helmet and the organiser says you should, don't ride it.
