Re: Cycle Paths

Sure, but most of them don’t specially register on cycling forums to start arguments about it!

Re: Cycle Travel question!

Hmm. It's a scale thing - basically it's the same stylesheet as used in the raster maps where the refs for local routes only kick in at zoom level 16. I'm not sure off the top of my head what that would be if converted to a 1:n scale, but I suspect it's under the 1:12,500 minimum for printing so it'...

Re: Cycle Travel question!

Did you move the orange box to your town? (i.e. not just have Ohio showing on the map, you need to click for the orange box)

Re: Cycle Travel question!

It's linked from the front page - not from the route-planning interface. :D Or just go here: https://cycle.travel/map/area

Re: Cycle Travel question!

It can't be a whole country (well, Liechtenstein maybe, and you could get most of Luxembourg in there...), partly because pulling that much data down from the server would take ages and no-one else could download maps in the interim, and partly because the scale wouldn't work - the roads would be to...

Re: Lon Las Cymru on a trike?

Plenty of barriers on the Taff Trail which would impede progress. If you start from Chepstow you might have more luck.

Re: Cycle Travel question!

A new feature!!!! Come on how about some hints!!!! Oh, ok then. :) You can now export PDF maps of an area - not just of a route. Choose the location and the scale, click "Create map", and it'll ponder for a while and then spit out a lovely PDF. It's linked from the front page - just click...

Re: Cycle Travel question!

(Sorry, a feature request before you've even got to beta stage:) But, could it download a .tcx course? or a choice as to the format (as you get on the cycle.travel GPS button). Yep - in theory it should be able to download either .gpx or .tcx; ConnectIQ has support for both of these. I've been look...

Re: Cycle Travel question!

iPhones/iPads are difficult because they don't easily talk to external peripherals like GPS units. But there is one way to do it... The idea behind building a Garmin app is that it'll be something that sits on your Garmin (anything with Connect IQ support). It then uses your phone (via Bluetooth) to...

Re: Cycle Travel question!

I download as .gpx or .tcx, plug the Garmin Edge Touring into a USB port on my Mac, and copy it across into the appropriate folder. But I have now bought a (secondhand) Edge 520 to develop a cycle.travel Garmin app on. Just need the hours in the day...!

Re: Cycle Travel question!

Just the map reloading with the latest OpenStreetMap data - I have to turn the map rendering off while this happens (otherwise it’d generate half-full map tiles from the half-full database!). This runs overnight every month or so, so if you looked at the site last thing yesterday or first thing toda...

Re: Essex to Plymouth by train - practical?

Honest answer is that I don't remember, but I strongly expect my email would have been phrased in such a way - it's how I write things! :) I do remember sending an email to both Cycling UK and A.N.Other Cycling Organisation - a named person in each case. The person at A.N.Other replied that, by mutu...

Re: Essex to Plymouth by train - practical?

Can we agree on the number of bike spaces? They are still using the old HSTs (6 spaces, including for a tandem) but it is mainly now the new IETs. Bike spaces are all over the place and they might not know even at the platform which carriage it is in. AIUI the new trains split 5/5 coaches. If there...
