Tea for me ...but I prefer it brewed in a pot from loose tea leaves ...tea bags are a horrid invention , just about bearable if camping or in a workshop...But at home real tea every time ...Edit...if anyone is every passing this way pop in for a cuppa .....

Re: Do you drink too much?
Yeah I probably do drink to much ,Like all of the people in my village , I have a plot of land and I grow a few red wine grapes on it and make about 200 lts of red wine every year.I give lots of it away to friends and visitors ...if we get invited out to friends houses for a meal I always say "I'll bring the wine "...When I first lived here in a tiny mountain village in Eastern Crete I drank like the locals, raki at mid morning , wine at Lunch and Dinner and raki again in the evening ... now I only drink a two or three glasses of wine in the evening ...We went to the UK to visit family and friends earlier this year ...In two weeks I drank two glasses of wine the whole time I was there , super market wine just did'nt taste right ....

Re: How to brake discs Vs Rims
Yep that is my braking technique on bikes when I was a kid and on motor bikes as a teenager ...and now as a born again MTB cyclist with hydra lic discs. Feather the rear brake to slow and then both brakes together to stop never the front on it's own ....

Re: What English do you SPEAK?
I speak english, and can get by in Greek ..I can discuss with my neighbours things like when they are going to pick their grapes and make wine , how many kilos of olives they harvested this year , and how many glasses of Raki they drank last night ...but sadly I cannot discuss Art , Music , or Politics ....

Re: Arthritis and Cycling Setup
Yeah, I've just turned 65 I have arthritis in my right hip .I gave up eating wheat 3 or4 years ago and it seems to have helped massively ...I bake some real 100% wholemeal dwarf bread now and again when I feel the need ,and enjoy it immensely . I have recently taken up cycling again , bought a second hand MTB and buzzed about on it in the remote Cretan village where I live . The hills killed me .So I converted it into an E bike with a kit from China ...so far so good ... I developed a lower back pain thing ,so I raised the bars and that has made the whole thing much much more comfortable.. now I try to use the bike as much as poss and aim for 10 miles a day ,...to my local shops and back maybe just out for a couple of hours with my camera ...

Re: Proving I'm me!
I was going to Chania (fair sized city in Crete ) a while ago and a friend asked me to pay a bill to her accountant for her at the bank ...she gave me the bank details of the accountant and the cash ....so far so good ...so I did the things I needed to do and then went to find the bank...It was packed. When it was my turn I went to the cashier and handed her the bank details and the cash , then she asked me for my mobile number....well I do have a mobile ...its a 10 euro pay as you go burner and it lives most of the time ,switched off in the glove box of the truck, I can never remember the number it written on a bit of masking tape on the back of the phone.. and said truck is parked in the carpark on the other side of town ..".OK "she says and with that wonderful Cretan practicality ....she writes her own mobile number in the box on the slip ...

Re: Car parking close to the kerb by the traffic light s
Yes weaving between vehicles waiting at traffic lights near side or offside can be very tempting ....But it has a downside. Being doored , fag ends down your neck , windscreen washers and wing mirrors....best to just wait behind imho....

Re: New e bike conversion PAS knowledge needed
OK here's a thing ...after re- positioning the PAS ring and sensor it's now 1mm I was hoping when I went out today for a 6 mile ride I would be happy with the set up ..well it worked OK but I still find it very lumpy ... it's workable on the flat but if I speed up peddling because there is a rise in the road the power goes off . On the very hilly bits around here even when I try to keep a steady rhythm...it seems very unnatural ...Half way around my morning jaunt I was thinking about the eight magnets wizzing past the sensor ...I guess the sensor is counting the gaps and relaying that to the controller, you have a choice of 5,8,or12 magnets ...so I stopped and re-set the control box for twelve magnets ...and it 's made it so much better ...the power comes on and then tails off smoothly I can control the wattage by peddling faster ...very satisfying to see the speed going up and the wattage going down .....so has anyone else done this ? is this going to damage the controller or any other bits of the system ? If I swap the eight magnet sensor for a twelve ..will that improve things even more ?..looking forward to hearing the thoughts of the hive mind ...jeff

Re: New e bike conversion PAS knowledge needed
Thanks for that info hemo...My controller is labeled..current 22plus or minus 1A....and the battery is 36 volt 11ah 2200WAH li-on so I guess I should watch the watts on the hill and pedal more ... I'm going to remove the disc from the back of the small cog and re-mount it on the face of the four flat screws that fasten the cog on ...that will make it possible to with a re-designed bracket to mount the sensor much closer to the disc. we will see ..thanks again ..

New e bike conversion PAS knowledge needed
As some of you know ,I recently fitted a 250/500 watt rear hub motor complete with a 36 volt 11amp hour battery , PAS sensor, SW900 LCD and thumb throttle to my Specialized Rockhopper MTB …the bike works fine on the thumb throttle and I can buzz about the tracks and dirt roads here no problem, but the PAS system seems to have a problem.
The motor starts but cuts out as speed increases, making smooth travel very difficult. In PAS 1 eco level the power comes on at about 7 kph/4 mph and stops at 9 kph/5.50. In PAS 2 std level the power will continue up to about 11 kph and then fade out … and so on up through the PAS levels. In PAS 5 power the speed will get up to about 15 kph. This effect is altered slightly with gear changes. It is impossible to reach the designated speed for this motor, which I think is about 22 kph,15mph using the bike in PAS mode though all goes smoothly just using the thumb throttle. Anyone know how to stop this happening in PAS mode?
An question for the techies ..The motor is 250/500 watts dual wattage. I'd really like to find a way can you shift the settings so you know that you are legal (250w only) for road travel? Also the SW900 LCD shows the wattage varying widely from as little as 75w to 800+ - how is that possible if it is only a 500w motor?
I mounted the PAS sensor on the chain-ring side of the bottom bracket because there was’t enough space between the frame and the crank. The gap between the magnets and the sensor is about 2 mm. Is the fact that the back of themagnets are against the granny cog affecting the magnetic field that the sensor reads? .....the other thing that just pops into the what I call a brain is... do I need a torque sensor instead? sorry for a long post ..jeff
