Re: best conversion kit

Another other thing whichever you go for ... make sure you install it with the motor wire leaving in a downwards direction to prevent/reduce water ingress.

Re: Charge battery from car socket

Most ebike batteries are 36v or 48v; a few 24v. So you would need a converter of some kind; probably to 240v ac then use regular ebike battery charger. An ebike battery is typically 10aH or more, so a 36v one would take 30aH from a 12v car battery even not allowing for losses. Typical car battery is...

Re: best conversion kit

Check Cyclotricity reviews; some positive but certainly not overall glowing. General option (mainly on pedalecs site) is that Woosh I mentioned before give much better service. They don't appear to be significantly more expensive ... make sure you compare like with like, especially battery and contr...

Re: Crank drive query

I'm not sure about the front chainset. It may be that the bottom bracket on the Bafang isn't wide enough to fit a triple. You don't necessarily need such a wide range of gears with electric because of the help the motor gives. That is especially true with crank drive, as the motor is benefiting from...

Re: Add-on e-bike conversion kit - Swytch or eBay kit?

A bike motor is more powerful than the average cordless drill, at least its ability to generate continuous power. (I can't see continuous power ratings for drills in a quick search). The bike battery has much higher capacity. eg a £50 B&D comes with 2x 1.5Ah 18V battery, 54wh. A typical lowish e...

Re: Replacement battery for e-bike (different voltage and Amp hours), will it work?

The motor would probably be OK at 48v (if used with care). However, the controller would almost certainly need to be changed, and maybe the display unit. You would be fine with a battery of a different Ah rating; but it does of course need the same mechanical and electrical connections. If you ask o...

Re: Do E-bike riders get more exercise than regular cyclists ?

Last week, I decided not to charge my battery even though it was down to 20%. I wanted to see what the actual range was; the estimate on the control bears little relation to reality. I got 108 miles from the 400w battery, and the lights still worked even though the motor didn't. The upshot of this ...

Re: When is an Ebike not an Ebike?

Certainly not a pedalec. No pedals, the motor looks like an ungeared direct drive and almost certainly above 250w nominal, and 20mph. Therefore cannot be driven without licence/tax on UK road as a pedalec. It might come under the mobility scooter rules? p.s. no, certainly breaks the 8mph max. https:...

Re: Nomad/Bafang?

Look what people have to say at https://www.pedelecs.co.uk/forum/forums/conversion-kits-general-discussion.42/ Many experts (and sadly a few would-be experts) there. I'd recommend Woosh for kits. http://wooshbikes.co.uk/ It may come out a fraction more than buying bits separately, but you will know ...

Re: Waking up an e bike

Yes, thanks. Didn't notice the d8veh signature ... (I usually qualify my references from here to Pedalecs with a comment that there is lots more expert advice, but some that NOT so expert).

Are there any reliably references to reviving an over-discharged battery?

Re: Waking up an e bike

I read on Pedalecs forum of special chargers to recover over-discharged batteries. I can't find it now. I think it involves an expensive specialist charger, and isn't at all certain even them.

Re: Advice for first e-bike

(1) There are two kinds of sensors; cadence and torque. Cadence is usually just on off for pedalling or not. Torque senses your pedalling pressure. On cadence sensor bikes the power levels are a proportion of the total available motor power, irrespective of how hard or fast you are pedalling. On tor...

Re: Motus grand tourer range

Typical example of erraticness. Short ride this morning, all on tour. Start: estimate 41 miles. Briefly went to 42 after short downhill. After 2 miles mainly uphill off road (80m climb), 21 miles estimate. Back downhill and some level, 30 miles estimate after 7 miles ride. Another mile and 20m uphil...
