Hi.
Could someone advise me?
I bought a used pair of Zipp 30 Course wheels.
The rear came with QR.
But the front had no QR and the front has as 12mm hole for thru axle.
I bough off amazon a 12mm x 100mm thrux axle to 9mm QR, so I can use QR.
But just realised/notice the ends of the wheel end caps don't have the serrated face like on the QR skewers.
It is flat face/edge.
It it ok to clamp the QR skewer down on this?
Or should I try and source QR end caps for these Zipp wheels?
Thanks

Re: Front Hub Motor Not Working
Hi Hemo
I hadn't checked the forum for long time.
I've been cycling with my legs recently
I was in China last month on a family holiday, hoping to get a new clutch, but did not get a chance.
In the end, after I came back, i bought 2 clutches for Green Bike Kit (from China!)
Thanks for the reply, I can sort of understand how the clutch mechanism works.
I'm not sure if the old one can be repaired, plus the amount of crud still between the nylon gears the the metal body, probably not 100%
I did try it one more time, i used a mallet and banged the clutch (saw on youtube), initally worked but halfway through a run it just spun inside.
Fitted the new clutch and runs much smoother. Average speed was good with little effect, where as before I seem to have to put more effect to get the same speed.
Hopefully, the new clutch last much longer with regular maintenance.
Thanks for you help & info once again.

Re: Front Hub Motor Not Working
Hi Hemo
So...I cycled to work today.
The first 3 miles ok...2 hills, went up with out problems... but then there was no strong assistance.
I can hear the motor spinning.
Yesterday when I did a test run...it run fine. I stopped once to check and it was hard to turn the front wheel by hand. But when I pedaled off, the motor kicked in.
So now the motor does not spin the wheel. Is it the the 'clutch' component with the 3 white nylon gears that has failed?
I remember the first first, I unscrewed the fixings, turned the cover (trying to remove this) and it somehow fixed it.

Re: Front Hub Motor Not Working
Ok...the gap was actually small enough for the screws to meet the thread (I didn't think to try at the time)....so screwed in each in opposite places...as you said...the cover popped into place......
Put the wheel back on the bike and it ran smoothly. It sounds quieter than before. Happy now.
I took the motor apart too check. Grease spread around outer gear and nylon gears evenly...I put some more grease. The thin rubber seal broke so used plumbers tape around the rim of the cover.
If I can, I try a post a link with a video.
It just sounds so much smoother than before.
The cable is not long enough to form a drip loop...so I have to be careful when it is wet (avoid puddles) and when washing the bike.
I guess this should be like an annual service
Thank you for your help hemo again.

Re: Counter intuative
Hi
I have a similar bike, I bought from Aerotek, it has SRAM Automatix hub gear. This has 2 gear.
Hub motor on the front, is pedal assist only, just cadence sensor, its basic, no throttle, no LCD display etc.
My commute route is mainly flat with 3-4 slopes, steepest is about 6-7% but all not to long slopes.
I think both bikes are similar, as you approach the 15mph, the motor assistance ramps away.
So when I cycle up hill, with the weight of battery and motor it almost pointless to pedal faster than 15mph as it will take a lot of effort, especially for you as you have only 1 gear.
I either pedal with medium or low effort and let the motor do most of the work, as that what I got the bike for, to get me over the hills.
Going up longest and steepest hill the speed drops to 9-10 mph, with medium effort.
And about 8mph with low effort, ie lower cadence. (But I have energy in the legs to carry on after going over the top)
I have done a test run when I first got the bike, there is a steep hill, 10% at about 60m and the speed slowed down to about 5-6mph, but it was easier and quicker than spinning on the lowest gear on a mountain bike. Until I stopped and tried to start pedaling up the hill again.

Re: Front Hub Motor Not Working
Ok....will make sure the cable drop down first.
Last bit....I'm struggling to assemble the hub back.
I've put the motor back in. But there is like another 6mm gap...I'm pushing hard but the cover won't go back on.
Is it just more force or am I doing something not right?
Thanks

Re: Front Hub Motor Not Working
No jet wash....use only garden hose in a low strength sprinkle/hose to rinse.
I'll be avoiding washing in this area....just like on rear sram hub gear now. And just clean with damp cloth.
I can only assume moisture got through the axle some how. The cover and the seal look tight.
Crud was doing something/ not letting the middle piece rotate correctly. The part where it rotates in one direction and locks in the opposite.
As the wheel on one occasion just span without resistance.
I need to buy a thin rubber seal that goes around the cover edge. I'll grease areas as you mentioned. And hopefully this should get it going and give me back the full 250w. Lol
Thank you for your help hemo.

Ok....I cleaned the insides as best I can.
Could someone advise on what, where and how much grease to apply.
I 've got park tool hpg1 grease....is this ok to use?

Re: Front Hub Motor Not Working
ok... finally opened up the motor.
As it did not spin/turn as normal.
I couldn't prise open the cover so bangs the axles from the non cable side and it popped open.
Moisture has got in
Nylon Gears are ok
Bearing spin but with crud all over not smoothly at some points
Motor side spins ok
Underneath the crud/rust/dirt the white grease is there and quite thick
Is it it a case of cleaning it out.
Degrease
Once clean, re-grease.
Disappointed as this has lasted less than 2 years. I bought the bike new, used as commute to work about 3 days a week, winter and summer.
Washed the bike when dirty.
Moral of the story, don't buy cheap and if you do, don't ride along canal path in the wet and don't wash the motor.

Re: Front Hub Motor Not Working
I see...so the motor on my bike is a Bafang?
I search on you tube SWXB and a few videos came up.
So I just need to be strong and knock the cover off (after unscrewing all the screws), either with a mallet or 'knocking the axle from the other side?' would this damage the motor?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lBU8uIAjYgw
This video shows a 500W....it looks similar.
At the moment it is still working but something is not right or the same.
The motor still drives at the speed it should when I look at the speedo.
But when i spin the wheel...it spins a bit more free than before. Which suggest the teeth are worn?

Re: Front Hub Motor Not Working
Thank you for the advice and info.
I got it working again.
After I removed the screw, I could not remove the cover, I put flat head screw driver and tried to lever the cover, but was worried it would snap the fixing area.
I could rotate the cover, but it did not 'unscrew' off either. But rotating seem to have sorted it out....(I think temporary).
It does not feel the same as before, it does not have that 'strong' pull from the standing still.
I do suspect the teeth are worn as you say.
But I may have to take another stronger attempt to 'prise' the cover off.

Front Hub Motor Not Working
Hi
I'm hoping someone might me able to offer advice/help.
My front hub motor is not working properly.
The bike is out of warranty now.
Battery, power and connections are ok.
As I can hear the motor spinning inside the hub.
But the wheel does not spin.
I will take this apart.
But just as seeing if would know possible issue/problem and how to fix, before taking apart.
Photos attached.
Thanks

Re: SRAM A2 Automatix; introduction to the internals
The hub is on an ebike with pedal assist only. Commuting 2-3 times a week, through winter and through rain sometimes.
Before the spring adjustment, carried out 2 weeks ago; the hub has been fine.
But as mentioned the gear change setting is low, so even on a 4% slope/hill, it will still be in the higher gear; can and can be a slight strain on the legs.
My commute is mainly flat with 4 short 4-7% slopes. Ride half road and half canal tow paths over 11 miles.
Bought the bike due to price and simplicity; and to ride without getting to sweaty.
It's only since carrying out the spring adjustment that these issues have occurred. But with the adjustment, on the few slopes it is easier on the legs.
The motor pushes me with me pedaling at 12-13mph on the hill, the the springs adjustment make the gear change at 13/14mph, so this is now ideal.

Re: SRAM A2 Automatix; introduction to the internals
Thanks for the reply.
I didn't take this off when I did the adjustment.
I don't remember this getting loose, always stuck there, when the shoulder was off.
Will keep me eye on this.
I'll have to be careful when washing the bike now as water could easily get into the hub.

Hi
Another update....
Today this piece has come loose on my cycle to work.
I've knocked it back in. Seems fine.
