Tyres, tubes and brake clearances

I've run 700 x 25c tyres for years but I recently decided to try a 700 x 28c Shwalbe Marathon Plus which is also marked 28 x 1.10, 28-622. I used Schwalbe inner tube which is marked as suitable for 700 x 18 to 700 x 28c and the rim is a Mavic Open 622 15C. I pumped the tyre up hard using a Revolutio...

FFCT Semaine Federale

I have been looking on the FFCT website http://sf2017.ffct.org and it says that you can register and submit applications to attend online but I can't get any further than that and it would be helpful to have the English version. Has anyone else had this problem?

Re: Recovery time when getting older

I'm 58, in June I will be 59. I do Bikeability cycle training in schools and I cycle to schools whenever I can. Mostly the furthest school away is 10 miles but I try to put a loop in after work and make it up to 30. Yesterday I did 36 miles, today 37. I don't work in the school holidays so then I go...

Re: Bicycle pump.

Edinburgh Bicycle co-op do a Revolution which is like a mini track pump, I've had one for years and i use it for all my pumping, I have found that I just don't need a full size track pump anymore. It's probably about £20 but sometimes they have a sale. As for any kind of pump failing to get up to pr...

Semaine Federale

It's been nine years since I last went to the Semaine Federale and since then I have heard rumours that the FFCT planned to limit the numbers attending. Does anyone know if they implemented this?

Re: why I would give away my children's inheritance?

The letter asking for a bequest went straight into the bin as I'm sure it did for many other members too.

Surely they are recruiting for "Cycling UK" whatever that may be.

Re: Car Insurance

It is wise to check out things like Insurance, gas and electricity suppliers. As for the internet, it is wise to check out exactly what you are getting before jumping. If you go to http://www.cable.co.uk/guides you will find out what the ISP's are really offering, or not as the case may be. It is be...

Re: Car Insurance

Thanks for jogging my memory Paul and Gaz, it was indeed carinsurance4cyclists.
I have just saved £45 against the quote from my present insurers with better terms and conditions, result!

Re: Do we need a new Cyclists' Touring Club?

AUK is closer to the traditional aims of the Cyclist's Touring Club than "CTC", whatever that means, is. They have well organised and attended rides, offer free 3rd party insurance and have a magazine which is more akin to "Cycletouring" than the present "Cycle" is. Of ...

Car Insurance

I don't know where else to put this on the Forum.
A few months ago, probably on cycle clips, there was a link to a firm offering cheaper car insurance to cyclists. I can't remember the name of the firm but I wondered if anyone had got a quote or taken out the insurance?

Re: Best tyres for European road tours

Like many I use Schwalbe Marathon Plus, I like the almost total resistance to puncturing, I haven't noted any difference in comfort and as for rolling resistance Chris Juden commented recently in "Cycle" that as a tyre wears the rolling resistance decreases, that seems to make sense as the...

Thanks for the replies guys, I think I will stick with Zicral, sometimes you just have to pedal hard!

Ceramic chainrings

I have noticed that Stronglight do some ceramic chainrings, has anyone tried these? Are there any problems with them and are the worth the difference in price? I presume that there is no problem mixing them with, say, Zicral chainrings on a triple chainset and that they fit a standard alloy spider.
