Re: Asthma Inhalers

I used to be on the old 'metered dose' inhalers, then got given dry powder inhalers instead. They are available for all the usual asthma drugs, salbutamol, budesonide etc, but are much easier to use and display a counter of how many doses you have remaining. And the dosing is consistent right up to ...

Experiences of using breathing masks?

In the last few years I have developed asthma, and when cycling I find this is aggravated by pollen, and possibly pollution. So I've tried a couple of different masks: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01GBYBAJS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/prod...

Re: Snarky driver query?

I have seen this a fair bit lately, and generally I think it is taking the proverbial. But I guess it could happen if the cyclist was going round a long queue of traffic which they expected to gradually shuffle up and create spaces but it didn't work out for them. But in that case I would make an ef...

Re: What is stopping women from cycling?

no this is the thing that grinds my gears about this problem its like a perpetual groundhog day, the infrastructure we have in the UK is what largely determines what clothes you can wear to use it and what riders we end up with, so we end up with fit young men in lycra riding racing bikes because t...

Re: Peroneal tendinopathy

I've changed it, but for future reference, you can change a title by going back to your original post and clicking on the edit (little pencil) button in the upper right of the post. Ideally, someone with chronic pain should have a pain management plan, or at least a lengthy conversation the with GP...

Re: Peroneal tendinopathy

Just a quick update for anyone interested in Peroneal tendinopathy (can we change the thread title?). The main continuing symptom is a chronic, low grade inflammation, no pain. My forefoot puffs up as well now, in addition to the original site over the peroneal tendon (above the ankle joint). I've c...

Re: Peroneal tendinopathy

Hi Martin113, Sounds like you're having a horrible time of it! Have they given you an estimated time frame for your recovery? I am lucky in that I have not been in much pain overall. I would get the occasional stabbing pain followed by weird sensations of weakness, and my ankle puffing up making it ...

Re: Stop stretching.

If you're stretching, STOP. I had a year-long problem in area of upper tendon about 30y ago. Was active runner/cyclist at the time. I became lame. Everyone had me stretching. I'd limp after 400yd walking. EVENTUALLY I went to an expert masseur who'd worked with Pro footballers in England. I'll fix ...

Re: Achilles Tendinitis

Thanks for the link Steve. I hope you don't mind, I have sent you a PM.

I don't think it would go down well if I suggest to my physio that she has reached the limits of her expertise

Re: Achilles Tendinitis

Saw the physio yesterday. Like others before her, because she could not make my symptoms fit with any particular diagnosis she had basically decided I am over-reacting, and I should just resume my normal activities. I am sure I had explained before, and attempted to do so again: that is exactly what...

Re: Palms hurt when cylcing — i think i am doing something wrong

I am no expert in this by any means, but I noticed when I bought my current bike in 2015 (a mid-range hybrid) that the handle bars are much less adjustable than they were on my previous bikes, in particular I can't adjust the handlebars high enough. I am only 162 cm tall, and the frame was the corre...

Re: Achilles Tendinitis

Hi, So over a week into exercises. How is it going :) Hi Ankling, It's been 3 weeks now, and I can't say the Theraband exercises (which I have done religiously) and the insole have made much difference to be honest. I can feel my ankle is better aligned with the insole supporting my arch, the physi...

Re: Achilles Tendinitis

Re: Achilles Tendinitis

I damaged an achilles tendon around 40 years ago - it was on a long hill walk, and towards the end it just started giving me some pain, but I carried on and made it worse. I had ultrasound treatment on it followed by a series of exercises, and that pretty much fixed it - but it can still play up fr...

Re: Achilles Tendinitis

When it starts to give me trouble, it doesn't start as pain. It's sort of a mix of mild numbness and a strange niggling twitchiness, but if I carry on it will eventually turn into pain. AlanO - I totally identify with your description. But this seems to be a barrier to an Achilles tendinitis diagno...
