Re: Trek Domane AL3 2018: Advice needed

Update: have been for the test ride and I can confirm the ride was not much different to my current bike. I did feel a slight weight difference but it didn’t justify me buying the bike. On a side note, Evans cycle seem to be very pushy at the moment with their sales as they insisted they keep my dep...

Re: Trek Domane AL3 2018: Advice needed

UPDATE: Evans have got the bike for me now and I will be testing tomorrow at 3pm!. Prior to this, I may pop into Decathlon to test the Triban 540 which is £100 more and If it proves to be a better choice, I'll wait till pay day to buy this instead. Evans are happy to take my Triban off me as a trad...

Re: Trek Domane AL3 2018: Advice needed

Haha I agree with you Paul, it does sound like a new dating app. Thanks for the tip, I guess I’ll have to spend some time watching GCN vids on what to look out for when buying a bike.

I hope The stem doesn’t fail as £190 for a new one is not a small amount!

Re: Trek Domane AL3 2018: Advice needed

Thanks Kyle and Paul. Kylecycler is quite right. It’s an entirely different beast now perhaps Trek have discovered aluminium doesn’t like constant flexing :D Looks an enticing machine non the less and can anyone shed any light on this fancy stem business. Is it going to be a boon or a pain? Make sur...

Re: Trek Domane AL3 2018: Advice needed

Staaand by, what is this about the seatpost and fatigue? Do I need to worried about the seatpost breaking/cracking? If so, can’t I just put a new seatpost on?

Cheers guys, will be going for the test ride and then go for it if it's as good as I've been reading.

<SNIP>
Thanks for the review TrevA, I guess I'll have to test it to get a feel for it before deciding. As a side note, Trek bikes look amazing.

Re: Trek Domane AL3 2018: Advice needed

Thanks for all the replies, I will give the Btwin a bit more of a beating and then service it or buy a new bike. Have looked after the bike fairly well as I clean it every 6 rides and changed the chain two weeks ago. I have arranged a test ride of the Trek anyway to see how it compares.

Cheers all.

Re: Trek Domane AL3 2018: Advice needed

<SNIP> Thanks for this Bruce, in addition to the weight difference of the bike, I am also looking to change it due to the Gearset as I am running 3x8 at the moment and don't really see the point in the 'granny gears'. Another point is, I went to my LBS the other day and the mechanic was explaining h...

Trek Domane AL3 2018: Advice needed

Hi Guys, So I've been hitting the road a lot with my current Road Bike and absolutely love cycling now! At present, I have the Btwin Triban 500se and have had a good time with the bike, however, I am now looking at upgrading to the Trek Domane AL3 2018 version as this is 1kg lighter and has Shimano ...

Re: An intro: I'm New to Cycling

Also, is there a specific App anyone reccomends using for navigation as Google Maps is a bit flimsy? I can't really hope with the current state of that route but I usually load routes from https://cycle.travel/map onto OSMAnd~ when I need navigation. It's a bit fiddly and if it's too fiddly for you...

An intro: I'm New to Cycling

Hi Fellow Cyclists, As my name suggests, I'm new to road cycling and am keen to get started with my new Road Bike. I will be going for my first proper ride this weekend from Barking to North Greenwich this weekend and was wondering if any experienced cyclists can give me some advice ahead of Sunday?...
