Re: Bike for 7 yo - opinion on Python Elite 20, please

I bought Islabikes for my grandchildren. They fly on them. A heavy ill fitting bike can put them off for good. (Mind you I started out on an ancient Ladies bike that I couldn’t reach the saddle on) not cheap, but they pass down to younger siblings, still in good nick, and as said above, resale value is good.

Re: Halfords online

I’ll second Nuke’s post. Easy to be sniffy about Halfords, but the shops are handy, employment for local people, and the online service works well. Just bought my second Boardman Hybrid - their tie up with Boardman is good - well specced quality bikes, great prices - and 10% discount for c.uk members. The assistant at my Arbroath branch was friendly, helpful with my handover, even though he was obviously busy when I called. And they’re fine for bits n’ pieces.

Re: Raleigh Special Products MTB

Very many thanks for that Gaz - didn't know that ! - parts made in April 1996- so looks like it's 1996 or 97. Question answered.

Raleigh Special Products MTB

I picked up this one on eBay - anyone had experience of these, and when it was made ? Raleigh Special Products Pro-Line M-Trax 300, serial no. AC 80510710. Shimano brakes & gears (3x8). Seems mid '90's. I've renewed the cables, tyres, pedals & put my own saddle. Photos too big to put on here - yellow alloy frame, box section chainstays, SR SunTour forks. Not the latest, but a nice bike to ride.

Re: Men's euphemism & saddle issues

My Tuppence worth - I finished treatment for Prostate Cancer over a year ago, Radiotherapy and Hormone Therapy. I cycle a fair bit and use Brooks B66 & B67S Ladies Saddles - (no, the Hormone therapy has worn off !!) - puts more of the weight on the pelvic bones. Adjusted to my preference, very comfy. Medics agree with this. As the above link says, cycling / excercise is the best thing you can do to keep the evil 'C' at bay - same goes for recovery. I also know another lad, not having PCa., who prefers these Brooks Ladies saddles over the more sporting 'scrotum crushers'.

Re: Lost Touch

Job done - seems mag cancelled as possibly returned by post for some reason. Very helpful - had cancelled direct debits or next renewal but now restarted.

Lost Touch

Printed magazine stopped arriving over a year ago. Began to think, why am I here ? Renewal letter arrived yesterday - didn't even know CTC had morphed into Cycling UK - maybe I've been too busy riding my bike .. OK, CTC is moving on, but I seem to have had no communication other than Cycle Clips Emails, which, to be honest, I don't read much - so maybe that's my answer already ! I can renew for the benefits of the club - has the paper magazine stopped ?

Mystery Bike?

Does anyone recognise this ? Any info gratefully received. Recently acquired this, in need of restoration. A mixture of MTB / American Cruiser / WWII BSA Parachute Folding Bike (without the fold). It has good quality alloy parts, stainless steel spokes, drum brakes & Sturmey Archer 4 speed hub gear dated 4/95. No badge or transfer other than a Dundee Bike Shop's transfer under the seat. No serial number found yet. Thanks !

Hawk Attack

My son was doing his commute from Forfar to Montrose on Wednesday when he felt a whack on his helmet. Thought it was a stone or branch, looked round & saw he was being followed by a Buzzard. A trawl on the net has revealed that this is not unknown during the nesting season. His raptor friend even took a little bite out of his helmet. Another vote for helmet wearing, and a change from being chased by dogs.

Re: Pedal won't thread on flush

OK - see what you mean. I had bother with an ungreased pedal in my ignorance, thought the thread was 'out', a stiff tighten getting worse till near the end I feared wrecking the thread. With grease it went in firmly but OK all the way. Maybe one for the LBS - good luck - you'll get there eventually ! - usually do.

Have you greased the thread ?
