Re: Jimmy Savile

So the NSPCC is saying he is probably the worst serial sex offender ever, the Police are investigating 200 potential victims of the abuse. Am I correct in thinking that he would have passed a CRB check right up to his dying day? More sensationalist rubbish, Savile has a long way to go to be worse t...

Re: Crazyguyonabike ?

It often means the website admin needs to buy a new certificate. This is only really used to prove they are who they say they are.

Re: How safe is cycling?

Cycling itself is very safe, as safe as you are on a bike. But I suspect you mean, how safe are motor vehicle drivers on our roads? I would say it varies. You can probably gauge which roads you will want to be on by knowing what they are like in a car (assuming you drive at the moment). If they are ...

A car is now deemed essential

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-18770783 "Travel: Bus fares have doubled since the late 1990s which when combined with cuts to public transport, means families with children now deem a car as an essential item" Whatever next? What about those who are unable to drive due to disability or health?

Re: Accident without bike insurance

So yes, it's not an automatic way of getting someone convicted. But in the event of an accident it is used as a way of attributing liability. Point if you get knocked down and you weren't obeying a highway code recommendation but the other party jumped the lights or was drunk then who's at fault? It...

Re: Accident without bike insurance

Also, much of the Highway Code is not legally binding. So unless your actions were in contravention of a road traffic act rule then the mention of the Highway Code can be ignored.

Roller skates would be better than a bike for chasing around town.

Re: Where can I test ride a 29er off road near North London?

700c wheels on a MTB. The only options I can think of are near Hemel hempstead and in surrey. Singular don't officially do demo rides, but Sam is a top bloke and might let you have a go, especially if you want to buy a bike or frame off him. His stuff is highly recommended by me. They even do a fram...

Re: 5 weeks of car free bliss..

You obviously haven't yet become the true utility cyclist. Did cycling midwives change their uniforms on arrival at the patient's house? :D I cycle in normal clothes when visiting friends, shopping etc. The trick is to cycle at just below the speed which provokes sweating. Only do the sweaty athlet...

Re: 5 weeks of car free bliss..

It has been weeks of car driving misery for me. Bad weather in April meant less cycling than usual and then I injured my coccyx which has only just healed up, plus my hip has started to click when I walk, but it seems not to affect cycling. I'm hoping to recharge over the long weekend and be rolling...

Re: Charged for watching Olympics at roadside?

The more I learn about the olympics the more I think it is just a sponsorship competition with a bit of sports thrown in. There's an advertising exclusion zone around the stadium where only official sponsors adverts can be seen. Bridges have had their adverts covered up. All of the changing rooms an...
