Re: Temporary traffic lights - inadequate time for passage

Had this happen to me a few months ago. It was the last time I was considerate and waited my place in the que of vehicles. I now arrogantly shove my way to the front and let the trail of cars flash lights revving their engines and bleeping their horns knowing it is for their presence that the oncoming traffic will opt to wait.

Excellent suggestion. Ran the details through and it came back with a quote of £3.18/mo. Much more acceptable. I need to get ahold of my home contents documents and have a read. It could turn out I’m covered already. Or just need to call them and add a tweak. Although. Dealings with car insurance companies. Said “tweaks” always carry a £30 administrative charge. So starting a separate coverage would prove less costly.

Thanks for the suggestion. I will have to enquire.

Cycle insurance

So I’ve been looking. I’m not worried about it being stolen. I don’t leave it anywhere that isn’t secured. But what if I crash and ruin it.

Why is it SOO expensive. My motorcycle is worth twice as much as the push bike. parked on the street with no anti theft device and I can insure it for £85 a year. Yet for an unmotorised vehicle stored in a brick building over night and kept locked up inside a locked bike shack inside a secure compound at work for £205.

Any suggestions where to look?

Re: Why do bikes look so boring?

: cries : I have been watching a focus paralane AL 105 for a few months now. It’s about £500 outside of my budget so I’ve been saving up. The 2019 model is out. Is solid black. It’s dreadful. I now need to find a new bike that I want. Sigh.

I’d argue it doesn’t matter how visible you are if a motorist has no capacity of understanding how wide their vehicle is.

I have always smiled at this........ no-one queries car colour asa safety factor

I have heard rumours of select insurance companies offering a (minuscule) discount on bright red, yellow flourecent green cars. As they are supposedly less likely to be hit by someone not seeing them.

I would avoid buying a black or grey bike if other colours were available

I'd argue that what's seen first is the rider and not the bike.

The area now known as Canada has been inhabited for thousands of years, even the arctic I understand

The suble difference of now known as. And known to be. It’s only been Canada since mid-late 1800’s

N+1 would suggest not to sell but just add to the collection.

NB. Did not read anything but the title

Just in case you missed my question in the last ramble.

Was your sit bone discomfort like sitting on a couple of marbles?
They just feel pointy.
If I lay forward with my chin almost on the bars, they feel much less pointy.

What shorts did you get?
Mine are Castelli. Can't find the model but they have the 'kiss' (annoying name) padding.
Are these considered any good?

I need to get different shorts anyway as they are too tight around the thigh with the elastic and too short in the body.
Even though I got a large.

I have only been cycling for 7 weeks now. I’m not by any means an expert here. But after my first two weeks riding in normal shorts the pain increased daily until I felt like I had fallen out of the back of a van and landed on my rump. It made me wince even trying to sit on the sofa I had to lay down.

Got some

Took about anothee week af wearing padded Lycra and the pain began to dissipate but I’m all good now. Probably a completely irrelevant experience having further read into your issue.

Have you brought yourself to adorn cycle shorts with good padding. Putting my self image aside and giving into some Lycra went a long way to resolve my sitbone pain. And it was bad.

Re: GCSE Project - Hi-Vis / Safety

Broad day light. High vis fluorescent yellow long sleeve shirt. High vis fluorescent reflective helmet. Reflectors on wheels and peddals. Flashing rear red light. And a van still came up behind and mowed me down. Visibility is NOT and issue. If anything the more high-vis you have, the more like a bull drawn to red motorists become, the issue with cycling safety is Motorists attitude towards anyone doing less than 10mph OVER the speed limit. And their general inability to comprehend the width of their vehicle.

And as much as I had liked the idea of cycling lanes. I went somewhere new last week that had them. They were full of branches grit stones various rubbish. And so poorly surfaced I could not use them.

Gah. She reckons she is going away to university. I cannot fathom the distress this will cause her as the reality sets in that mommy won’t be there to give her blow by blow daily instruction on how to remain alive.

I did not mention putting their head where the sun don’t shine.
I said they needed their head removed from where the sun don’t shine.
