Re: Help with stuck axle nut

The suggestion to get two nuts from a bike shop is probably the simplest solution, get them tight and put a washer between as it helps to do this. Then warm up the stuck nut on a gas flame (don't worry if it gets really hot) and then have a try to move it. If it starts to move, move it back and fort...

Re: Sturmey ASC Hub problems

Thanks. I will have another look and probably strip it down and check spring lengths against the spec. Might not do it for a while but will post when I have a solution. Getting new springs may be a problem as they don't fit all SA hubs, only a select few.

Re: Sturmey ASC Hub problems

Thanks for your reply. Yes, it is the correct trigger. I have had the hub apart recently (the problem was there before!) and everything is in good order, however the one thing I did not do was check the spring lengths. This may be an issue ie one of the springs needs replacing. Any thoughts on that?

Sturmey ASC Hub problems

Cable is adjusted correctly and results in 3rd and middle gears only, low gear slips. With more tension I get middle and low gear, then the top gear does not engage. Cable is free in outer. Any suggestions as to the cause of the problem and the remedy?

Thanks for the feedback. They do have a very small nipple on each end but I don't really remember exactly as it is 30 years since I last saw them! I have looked at the website re:frame building supplies and they are not the ones.

Cheers

Eccentric wheels

Reading the replies and your initial post reminded me that I have a pair of 26 inch wheels that I had made up for a fun bike. They were fitted to a frame that also had opposite steering and it was for me at least a challenge. I am not sure what condition the wheels and frame are in, I will have to h...

Mafac Top 63 brakes

Does anyone know where I can get the straddle cable/s from for the Top 63 brakes? I am considering making my own if I can't purchase any. the brakes were made for only a couple or years or so in the 1960's and are quite rare now.
