Re: Have you ever taken part in a cycle race?

Yes , both road race and time trialling. The road race was near Rutland Water, about 60 entrants and categories were 3rd and 4 cat, women and Vets. Distance was 58 miles and we averaged just over22.5 mph. We had motorcycle outriders clearing traffic and I believe we did 5 or 6 laps of a 9 mile cours...

Re: Private sector = corruption. (?)

I work in the private sector. Self employed since 1977. No holiday pay, sick pay, pension. I do have a lot of personal freedom. Sweeping statements pretty unhelpful.

It's a queen wasp. Hornets are orange and black as opposed to yellow and black for wasps.

Re: Swap 105 crankset for GRX?

I did exactly what you're proposing. After fitting the grx 600 46/30 chainset and removing two links from the chain and lowering the front mech it worked, but there was chain rub on the front mech when on both extremes of the cassette that is the top and bottom two cogs. I bought and fitted a grx fr...

Re: New £13k Specialized audax bike

Dear oh dear. The topic heading is about a £13000 Specialised bike and some contributors have gone off piste. What expensive cars and whisky have to do with this bike is beyond me. A recent question on this forum asked how many bikes people owned and the most common answer was three. So it's OK for ...

Axle conversion

Has anyone carried out 12mm thro axle to 9mm quick release? Reason for asking is Genesis Croix de fer 853 thro axle frameset is£900 and Genesis croix de fer 725 with 9mm drop outs£500. I have seen conversion axle kits available for £15 but am hesitant as safety is paramount

Re: Steep lanes in Hertfordshire

I believe Bison Hill is in Bedfordshire, not that it matters. Nearby is Sundon Hill which is tougher. There is Chalk Hill at Baldock that's quite tough. Coombe Road near Royston is a challenge. It depends on your location and how far you're prepared to travel. I like riding up hill and as I've ridde...

I use mine ror walking, running, cycling and treadmill. Not keen on phone notifications whilst exercise ING as in the mode of th...

Re: Off-lead dogs on shared paths?

In and around Letchworth we are fortunate to have the Greenway, 13 miles of gravel track shared use. Its very popular with walkers, dogwalkers, runners and cyclists. Dogs are by far the most hazardous things to come across. My wife has two dogs, (Im not a dog lover). Occasionally I accompany her, an...

Re: ** The thread for Rants & Odds and Sods **

Just watched a pretty depressing programme presented by Sir David Attenborough. It was about mass extinction caused almost entirely by human activity. The planet is overpopulated and many want too much materially. Bigger houses, bigger SUVs, overseas travel etc. I have six children and am aware of t...

Re: Gang of six-impact on Xmas

Much as I love my 6 kids, their spouses and grandchildren, I'm looking forward to a quiet Christmas with just our youngest daughter and my wife. For decades the stress of buying so much food, preparing the house etc, meant looking forward to the first week back to work in January for a rest. Bah hum...
