Re: Your plans for 2019 - make me jealous?

Don't want to feel smug, but I was lucky enough to win 2nd prize in the 2018 CTC draw. So it means that my brother and I will be enjoying a week with Green Jersey Cycling Tours in the Dordogne in September. The scenery looks fantastic and they have promised wall-to-wall sunshine. Bring it on!! But f...

Re: Bansky

I'd laugh myself silly if it was found not to be Bansky at all!

Re: Wood Burners

Nobody's mentioned cost yet. I cut my own, store and burn when fully dry. I burn it hot and there is minimal soot in the chimney. BUT, if I had to buy it, I'd think again. Saw some for sale recently in B&M, Aldi (or Lidl), petrol stations - all at around £5 per small bag. I reckon that will incr...

Re: Right Honourable Member or Not?

Boris has just been cleared by The Conservative Party - well, there's a surprise!
Forgot to say, he also said muslim women looked like bank robbers. Very insightful!

Re: Right Honourable Member or Not?

Maybe Mick is right. If he'd said "Stupid Person", would that have been acceptable?? I thought just about any insult was used in the Commons. Bercow definitely did say the same thing to Leadsom, so no good asking him to intervene. And Boris has been cleared of insulting behaviour in descri...

Re: Right Honourable Member or Not?

Does it really matter at all who said what to whom. They all act like silly schoolchildren half the time. Why aren't they concentrating on things that matter. In a rich country like ours there are thousands queuing up for food parcels every week and the numbers are increasing. There are more and mor...

Re: Should Mrs May be forced from Office?

Good old Brexit effect. It's like Marmite, Wind Turbines and Religion. - People make up their minds on the basis of taste or belief. The problem is that facts are hard to find. Who really knows where we will be after Brexit? Probably up sh*t creek with no paddle, but at least we'll feel good about s...

Re: Should Mrs May be forced from Office?

No need to depose her. Her authority will bleed away rapidly, now that her chums know she isn't staying. Sooner, rather than later, she will find that she can't achieve anything and will be persuaded to step down. By Easter?? Watch the knives being sharpened already and listen to all the weasel word...

Re: When I'm dead .........

My Father-in-Law wanted a low-cost, no ceremony, cardboard coffin and for his ashes to be scattered in our garden. He was true Cornish! We bought the coffin, took it to the morgue then carried him to the crem in the back of the car. All of this we did, then, a week later, held a happy get-together f...

Re: EU referendum 3.0 -- with don't know option --

Unusually, I sympathise with Mrs May, having to try to reconcile two polar opposites. Stay v Leave. What about stay, but with a mandate to reform the EU to make it more accountable, less bureaucratic, less wasteful and less corrupt? We've shown that there is a strong desire to do something about the...

Thanks Sanderton. That's useful. Plenty of time to collect reasonably up to date maps.

Re: NEWHAVEN/DIEPPE TO LAKE ANNECY

Ah yes, whether to go north or south of Paris?
Thanks for the info on the Michelin maps. I have plenty but they are all ancient, so basically worthless.
I like the idea of the Rhone Valley - not too many hills.
I have about 2 weeks, so flat is good, but I'll revert to a train if I'm a bit too slow.

Re: Walking Britain’s lost railways

What I'd like to do is close another railway line that managed to escape Beeching. LISKEARD to LOOE branch line. Not that I'm against the railway, but I think it would make a fantastic cycleway. It has around 2500 passengers per week on average, although this is heavily weighted by the much higher n...

NEWHAVEN/DIEPPE TO LAKE ANNECY

Planning to cycle this route next May to meet up with the younger dodgers. Anyone done this or part of it? I'm guessing I could follow the Voie Verte towards Paris for some distance and I know there are a few canal sections that I could take. Basically I'm an idle *************** so I like an easy t...
