Have someone put a couple of extra riv nuts in the down tube attach the base with 4 bolts on there and make up a strap which keeps it tight on the frame wrapping around the underside of the downtube .. It will then be secure no matter how bumpy it becomes and the machine will have a lower CofG.. will

Hay Will thanks for the reply. I now have 2 x 2 inch Velcro straps wrapped around it that hold it in place very securely, all of my riding is on tarmac so very smooth riding

First Ride with my Giant Talon & BBS02

Well I just completed my first ride on the new ebike. Really really enjoyed it, it’s smooth easy gear changing and I would say for 90% of the time I used power assist #3 and the remaining 10% power assist #4........... there is a total of 9 levels of power assist including throttle control if you want it.
As you can see from the charts I still had a pretty good workout because as soon as you stop peddling the motor stops.

I started just before the Thatachai check point here in Phuket Thailand and was waved through. About 3 miles later there is another COVID checkpoint before you get to the Palm hotel in Phangnga and I was waved through here as well. Returning to both of these checkpoints was the same just a Bobby waving me through. I did pass a group of 10 to 15 road bikes and got some astonishing was that that just passed us :D :D :D :D :D :D

I started off with a full battery and ended after 45 kilometres with about 50% gone......... I think I would be safe to do 75 kilometres.
All in all it was a lot of fun and to be honest I can’t ever see me riding my other 2 bikes ever again
Thanks to everyone on here who gave me help during the build
Neil

Length obviously chosen for the location, IIRC mine are 600mm
Ebay is a pain for multiple choice items in that when you have a look at your order it doesn't tell you which option you ordered (well not for me anyway)

I also couldn’t understand what I was buying on eBay so bought them off Amazon instead Image

Screwed up the battery holder hold down bolt so moved the battery to here

philg wrote:That does look neat.

I use these rather than bungees as secondary retention and they work well (so far!)

If you did want to move back to the downtube, then you can fit rivnuts (also ebay) to add more cage mounts.

That’s exactly what I need
Did you get the 2.5 x 50cm straps?

Screwed up the battery holder hold down bolt so moved the battery to here

Well everything was going along nicely until I managed to cross thread the bottle holder bolt while installing the battery holder......... the rivet below broke loose and because the frame is so bloody thin there I decided to mount the battery on the upright.
To be honest the battery fits in there really really snug like it was meant to go in there. Today I bought some bungee cords to wrap around the battery and frame as a secondary retention system....... it’s turned out nicely
Tomorrow I will pop over to the local bike shop to see if they have any of those handlebar and seat bags as I think that would be a great place to hide all the Bafang cable connections and also keep them out of the weather.

Spare battery

Guys
Do any of you carry a spare battery in a backpack when you head out for a ride or do you just plan the ride to suit the battery size?
Just interested if I should be thinking of having a second battery with me......... plan to do ~45 miles on low PAS........ current battery 48w 17.5 ah

Plus it's a 750w motor so I suspect the legality of the throttle is of little concern.

But definitely on the right - it's just where they should be.

Your right I don't know but unless the user/builder is going to take the bike to a MSVA centre to licence it, it will not ne legal nor will the bike any way.

I guess I forgot to mention that I live in sunny Phuket (Thailand)..........they are not illegal in Thailand

Neil

with a 750w motor and a throttle will you burn any calories ? I take it the throttle is to over-ride assist and as such convert your bike into a motor bike ?

Ive no idea.....Ive never ridden a ebike before.........the throttle comes with the kit

Exactly.

Though not knowing is a catalyst for such comments.

Maybe the OP would like to clear this one up?

The guys that I ride with all ride Road bikes (~5 bikes) I also have a Trek Madone SLR 7 road bike but I'm too fat to ride it (122kg), so I now take my Mountian bike.........problem is on any sort of hill I really struggle and I feel that my mates (even though they don't say anything, are pissed off having to wait for me all the time, hence having an ebike to take care of the hills. We normally ride about 50 to 70 kilometres
Out of that 50 to 70 kilometres there is really only about a total of 5 kilometres of hills, and slight hills at that but enough to slow me right down

Chainring wanted for a Bafang mid motor

Guys
I just ordered a new Bafang 750w mid frame motor to mount on my Santa Cruz Highball CC. I want to replace the steel Bafang chain ring to a alloy one with the thick/thin teeth........can someone please point me in the right direction to where I can buy one of these online.........I'm located in Phuket Thailand but can always ship first to my kids in Scotland then have them forward to me if need be?
I looked on Amazon where I bought the motor but the only ones I saw on there were 34T & 38T which sound to small to me.......what do you think?
Thanks in advance

Neil
