Re: Aurora polaris

I saw them once whilst driving home along the West side of Loch Lomond. I stopped at a lay-by to enjoy them, and asked someone else doing the same if I could borrow their phone to let SWMBO know about them (on the other side of the hill), and to take the kids out to see them.

Spectacular colours, greens oranges and purples.

Re: Day Date clocks

OK, I'm bored, waiting to go and pickup my £16.11 ebay special.

In reply to the original question: It'll be right again in Dec (and still right the following Jan/Feb).

Of course if it's a leap year it goes out by 1 day, so you'll then have to wait for 7 leap years for it to be right again.

I think this sort of thing was started by us Brits! Wasn't there a famous TV sketch by someone aournd the Python era (TW3 maybe?),spoofing the coach-trip-round-ever-Euro-capital-in-a-day?

Do you mean this, perchance? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/If_It%27s_Tuesday,_This_Must_Be_Belgium

I was told by a rather elegant lady in South Africa, that in that country women use a vuvuzela!

Re: Pub's Legs

Regularly play this with SWMBO (Mrs Rat). I once won with "the Roman Legion" on a visit to a friend in Luton (10,000). Then got it again on the way back as we'd swapped drivers!

It's amazing how pleased I felt, particularly as she was crowing about how it would be cancelled out on the return journey, until she realised!

Interesting ad that, From the description: "The coin in the picture is the example for sale." From the top of the ad: "2 available 4 sold"

Whereas from http://www.royalmintmuseum.org.uk/collection/collection-highlights/coins/1933-penny/index.html "No record was kept at the time of how many pennies dated 1933 were made but it is thought to be no more than six or seven."

Someone somewhere methinks is telling porkies!

That's impressive: I can't even bunny hop my road or mountain bike. Doing it on a spin bike must take some doing!

Re: Can Someone Please Have a Word with God…

I work with someone who does this for Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh (I think). There is a family that have kept records for over 100 years on when various flowers come into bud. He uses a penalised regression to estimate the effects of climate change on when they open. In short I think that 20 years isn't long enough, given the large amount of variability inherent in the weather, to find anything statistically significant at the 5% level. Including other measurements such as soil temperature might help, but conversely might just show that flowering has a strong association with soil temperature.

Yes, they do:

They easily take a full set of fencing kit (that's the sport, not building fences).

Ah but if you look at the crime statistics on that page vehicle crime is almost at twice the Scottish national average! It's amazing what statistics small numbers will throw up.
