Re: GCSE Project - Hi-Vis / Safety

Humans eyesight is tuned to detecting relative motion (being predators). Just think how easy where's wally would be if he was waving at you. So how about a light or other high vis accessory which spins or shakes side to side while flashing enough to "jump" out at the motorist.maybe even o...

Re: Newbie... 2 bikes for £2k

Right, i've had a look about. For a start I'm pretty set on a carbon frame road bike now. I think this is going to get used more, daily for commute most of the year and evening fitness, so don't want to skimp. The Basso has Tiagra throughout, would have liked 105 but would have to "drop" t...

Re: Newbie... 2 bikes for £2k

Hi, thanks everyone for the replies. The priority is hard, since both feel pretty important to me. Guess I'll learn what I should have done after... So I spent a couple hours today in cycle republic. Turned out all of my initial choices were out of stock everywhere and the website was wrong. But I h...

Re: Newbie... 2 bikes for £2k

Ok I hear you.... Whats the point in asking for advice if I don't take it. Tonight I will go back to the drawing board and see what my money gets me. What might be difficult now is that before the FS was determining the budget for roadie as the choice was limited. Now the budget split is more open. ...

Re: Newbie... 2 bikes for £2k

Full susp is not appropriate for rutted fields, woodland paths with tree roots, logs, uneven groud, descents etc? I've been reading alot and from what I can glean it seems full susp isn't unacceptable for what I picture in my head at least. Interesting the road bike hasn't really been mentioned. I c...

Re: Newbie... 2 bikes for £2k

Hehe yep I like to analyse and starting from nothing I have no predispositions to brand, features etc i can only really go by the equipment, reputation. Etc. Good point on resale value I had thought that with Calibre and also Vitus I discounted for that reason. Boardman I was going to but had read s...

Re: Newbie... 2 bikes for £2k

Ah right XC was the wrong thing to say then, I just meant cross country as in there are lots of open fields with paths and woods etc nearby. Like I said commuting is only a few miles so that is not the priority, I can use any bike to cover that without much fuss even if another set of tires / wheels...

Re: Newbie... 2 bikes for £2k

Well if winter ends up being on the old hardtail so be it... Or the car if it's that miserable! I'd love to test these out but I can't find them all locally. Tried the specialised in Evans yesterday and going to cycle republic today but chances of having some of the heavily discounted ones in a stor...

Re: Newbie... 2 bikes for £2k

Hi!

Thanks for replies.

I've already got a hardtail bike although not very used hence the desire (rather than need) for a full suspension.

Train station is quite safe, local village. Plus I'd be insuring these with Trov on the day's I needed.

Ta!

Newbie... 2 bikes for £2k

Firstly, Hi! I'm a born again biker, up to my teens was a very keen rider with titanium road bikes but not really MTB. Then it all went pear shaped. But I'm back and bad, 20yrs on with no clue. I'm in a new job using the cycle scheme to get some bikes for commuting + fun + fitness. Max budget is no ...
