Re: Changes at the CUK?
You quoted the hardback and asked for a cheaper version. I suggested the paperback at a quarter the price. What is wrong with that? I think you meant to say "Thank you for the suggestion" rather than the flippant and childish reply you gave.

Re: No more drunk driving? US automakers forced to adopt life-saving tech by 2024 National Highway Traffic Safety Admin
Current stats for the USA are 26 deaths from drug related crashes each day, 37 from alcohol related. So drink is still the leader.
But the result is still a death. So whilst there are probably 100s of thousands of drunk/drugged drivers every day managing to not kill themselves or somebody else, the key figure is the number of deaths that are caused (the harm), not the number of drivers.
Californian research estimates that alcohol and/or drugs is involved in 85% of road crashes with fatal or serious injuries.

Brompton 6-Speed Hub Compatibility
18-year old rear wheel is finally dying - cracks in the rim and some nasty sounds. How confident can I be that a new 6-speed rear wheel is compatible with the spacing and controls on an 18-year old frame?

Re: Tickets for Belgium Cyclecross Races
To answer this one myself, the answer is be patient. The UCI CX World Cup website became active and let us buy tickets 2 weeks ago, and the Super Prestige site became active for the race we wanted last week. So in rough terms, tickets go online approximately a month before the event.

Re: Van driver reverses over Jeremy Vine's bike
"Vine might have saved himself some grief if he had seen the situation developing"
He did see it developing, and whilst making no excuses for the driver, the video shows no hint of "what is that pillock doing, this could be dangerous" slowing down from Mr. Vine until he crosses the junction and stops behind the lorry.

Tickets for Belgium Cyclecross Races
Birthday treat this year is to attend the cyclecross races in Belgium over a weekend; Superprestige on the Saturday and UCI World Cup on the Sunday. But the organiser is getting nervous as it seems impossible to get details on tickets and to buy in advance. Google searches all seem to end on the same sites (https://www.flandersclassics.be/en and https://www.superprestigecyclocross.be/ ... -2024/niel) where if you click on the link for tickets they lead you round in a circle between the two sites.
Anyone have any experience of how the events work for attending and how to get tickets in advance?

Re: Brompton Seat Post Bungs
I think I found the reason myself today when upgrading the rack wheels to some Eazy Wheels obtained from SJS.
Each of the Eazy Wheels kits came with yet another rubber bung, so now I have 3 spares plus the one already on the bike. And the one already on the bike was just a push fit, not an expander cone as the rack instructions implied.
This time the instructions for the wheels and new bung referred to the new bung as being an expander cone type when it clearly wasn't.. And so I looked more closely at instructions and found what their date: November 2011. So it looks like whilst Brompton have changed the bungs they are fitting as standard and supplying in kits - the included instructions in the various kits are seriously lagging on being updated.
But then nobody reads the instructions... except me, and that because I write installation manuals and user guides for a living.

Re: B********* parents
err... He was proceeding along the the road in a residential area until, coming round the bend, he was faced with some opinionated swearing B****** objecting to having the passage of their motor carriage halted. Fortunately nothing consequential happened as the sweary B****** insisted of forcing him off the road so that they could continue on their way through.
To put it the other way round, you were in housing, on the road reduced to a single lane, and unsighted due to the bend - all signs to proceed with caution because things might happen - just like they did. So get a grip and stop trying to make such a drama out of what most people would call 'life'.

Brompton Seat Post Bungs
New Brompton owner, loving it, might even actually ride it at some point rather than just admiring and practising fold/unfold.
But anyway, just fitted the rear rack, no problem with that. But that rack kit comes with a seat post bung and instructions to use it to replace the existing bung.
The rack kit one is a simple press fit rubber bung, the existing one is kind of expander bolt design. Whilst the Brompton instructions are clear enough, they don't say why the bung needs to be changed. Anyone know why?

Re: You are not authorised to view this forum
Very. AI like ChatGPT doesn't come up with stuff spontaneously, they are seeded with parameters by the requester. Someone can ask it to generate a 1000 word essay on how you murdered your whole family and it will do precisely that (you didn't I hope). If you're going to quote ChatGPT, you're going to have to quote the parameters of what it was asked to do and by who.

Re: Disc brakes, not working
Perhaps help others help you by saying what you mean by "I can't get mechainical (sic) disc brake to work".
The actions you say you've taken imply you think its a lack of pad grip on the rotor, but already that's us guessing. If we have to guess the actual problem, then we're double guessing possible solutions.
- Do the brake levers move? Freely or do they seem stiff?
- Do the pads move when the brake levers are operated? Both side?
- When the levers are moved all the way, do the pads appear to be in contact with the rotors> Again, both sides? (yes, that can all require contortions to see)
- What make and model of disk brake?

Re: Is it Cheating
It's however you want to do it, there is no set route, no set time, just LE at one end and JOG the other, and some adventure and challenge in between, which criteria you have clearly meet. Some of us have even JoGLE'd instead of LEJoG'd and it still counts. So go for it, ride on and bon voyage.
