Re: What cycling did you do this weekend?

Out straight from work Friday night with the bivvying gear on board. Knocked off 60 miles with a chippy tea at about 45 before finding a quiet secluded spot to get my head down for the night. Chilly, but beautiful and clear night (thankfully dry). Up again at first light before pushing 50 miles bac...

Re: Starting campaign to improve cycle path in SE England

I have just started taking my daughter to preschool, using a trailer (baby brother comes too). I use a pavement cycle track for about 2 miles which serves a 4-18 school (c. 1000 students) and a science park but is otherwise rural (greenbelt). The path is moderately well used by parents on the schoo...

Re: Greatest ever uk frame builder?

If anyone is interested in the difference between machine (robot) built frames and hand finished , hand made bespoke frames this video pretty much nails it. Though it's from the 80's the only thing that's really changed is the speed of manufacturing. Pulsed robotic welding machines can complete an ...

Re: CKD worth considering if your out of puff

Has anyone told you an eGFR value? https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/kidney-disease/diagnosis/ I am currently at Stage 3(a) for CKD but it doesn't seem to impair my cycling and nobody has suggested that is likely to have any impact. The value seems to vary year by year and test by test, and a high(ish)...

Re: CKD worth considering if your out of puff

Thanks hogkite and smudgerii wise words again from both of you which I will heed. I said its a funny old world and its proven to be true again today as I have just read Mick F post about high blood pressure which I would never have expected to read as Micks got a proven record of cycling long dista...

Re: Speaker of the House!

Is it a job for an mp who has never made it to cabinet level or who will never reach it again, as a way to get more pay towards the end of their career before retiring and sitting in the house of lords? If so harriet Harman makes a good candidate. Ex cabinet member, now out of favour with her leade...

Re: Best £1000 gravel bike ?

Just brought a Boardman Adventure 8.9 from Halfords and really pleased with it. I had wanted something lighter but given the discount my grandson got working there part time I dont mind it being a bit heavier. Rides well and the wheels don't feel excessively heavy. Saddle supplied is a Fizik which I...

Re: Bank holiday, are people mad

I’ve never understood the eagerness of people to become an actual part of the congestion and madness that often surrounds a BH. I assume the people who do it can’t go to work or have nothing to do at home. I think, when working, I worked every Easter and every BH after all it was double time in the...

Re: Modern bicycles...

Are they ugly? I suppose if you like Bladerunner esque, futuristic carbon fibre, all is well with you, but does anyone get the Campagnolo catalogue to gawk at the beautiful parts any more? One can argue that aesthetics makes no difference to the riding, but one has to get off the bike and look at t...

Re: Audax Bike (Spa?) with Tourer Gearing & Double vs. Triple

I've owned and ridden tandems for 30-odd years. If you are very quick you will get away with a small front slide where you might not with a solo; tandems just don't change direction that quickly, and this (thankfully) includes falling over. They are something of a special case because you (in the c...

Re: Disc frame touring build..or just go buy a bike?

I've recently done something similar to what the op is considering. It really isn't worth the trouble and money. I 'upgraded' my Spa Steel Touring to a Spa Wayfarer mostly to be able to use bigger and better tyres (the Touring I had used 26" wheels) but I was also looking forward to no wear on...
