Rather than risk getting sun burnt & it also helps to hide my big belly today I dug out a very lightweight rain jacket Wolf Bike and riding it with a cycling jersey underneath with the jacket zip half open it did the job. Just rubbed sun cream on my legs.SummitFreedom wrote: ↑16 Jun 2023, 8:36pmWhat kind of clothing would be suitable for the current temperatures that would cover me?

Re: Statins - side effects
Thank you to everyone for replying to my postings & I will take on board Jonathan the gravity of what you have written.
Rather than try & respond to individual suggestions I will try the self help advice that has been suggested & see whether by doing so my condition improves
It might just be time to buy an Ebike. But before I do I would just like to see whether I can get my legs to feel lighter & not struggle to get out of a comfy chair.
Reading Colins contribution it does seem that I could be having similar experiences so I will initially take half of a 40mg Statin for two weeks & then stop taking them for two weeks to see if my legs improve. If they do I can then contact the Cardiologist to ask if I can take an alternative.
Funnily enough one of my cycling friends also has a non cycling friend who struggled to find the right Statin as well
We're currently on holiday as I write & this week I have been using the hotel pool so I am hoping that too will help my legs. Thanks again to everyone for your advice .

Re: Statins - side effects
I think you right MF
Prior to this I never had a high cholesterol level as my company gave us a health check every few years. In fact it seemed to irritate younger members of staff that this old boy had better levels than they had. I put that down to being a runner/,cyclist.Then years later they found I d had a mild heart attack which I hadn't even noticed they put me on Statins.I can understand Jonathan's comments but prior to starting on them I was OK. Now I even struggle to get out of a comfy chair & when I do my kegs feel like lead.Ok I m 72 but I still think given my background of exercising this isn't right. Particularly irritating now as we're on holiday & I can't even go for a run. Definitely going to get back into the habit of visiting this Forum as well more often. Thanks.

Re: Statins - side effects
Thanks Jonathan. Discuss with doctor ! Fair question but not an easy thing to do these days unfortunately. He would refer me to my Cardiologist & getting to see him is even more difficult. Funnily enough the last time I contacted him & this could open another thread it was to ask to be taken off amiodarone as I had read bad things about it. I shortly after found a site on Facebook supporting what I had readJdsk wrote: ↑13 Jun 2023, 8:40am Sorry to hear about those problems.
When did you last discuss them with a doctor?
On reading this thread please note that you have been prescribed a statin for secondary prevention after your heart attack. Some of the discussion is about primary prevention, and the size of the benefit differs considerably between the two uses.
Jonathan
So by asking this question I am trying to try & alleviate the problem myself or at least lessen the problems I am experiencing.

Re: Statins - side effects
Sadly definitely late to this party but still find this interesting. Having had a mild heart attack so mild I didn't even know I had had it until a medic told me in a telephone conversation. I was prescribed atorvastatin 80mg amongst a few other pills several years ago. Since then my legs have felt like lead , exercising has become a chore because of a lack of energy & enthusiasm and as for my libido well I,d rather not say. However even more annoying than this is that I now have a stomach the size of a 70s dart player even though the only pints I have drunk for years have been water. Even though I have trawled through the thread do these issues sound familiar to others taking this Statin.Thanks.

Re: Atriall Fibrillation
A but ironic Tim really as I am sitting in hospital beside my grandson who had Covid19 & now has a bug which 3 in a million people get. He's 20 and I am reading this thread. I won't bore you with the details but I too have a heart problem. Two of my Chambers aren't working properly & has part of the treatment they put me on Amerodian. I took it for 18 months before I learnt how toxic it is. I immediately rang the Cardiologist & he gave me an alternative. However it hasn't stopped me getting a thyroid problem but at the moment it's border line for being treated. I reverently found a page on FaceBook called Stop Amerodian & it's worth reading. As for cycling I am still doing it but now short mileages once a week at a leisurely pace.Tim Holman wrote: ↑23 Jan 2023, 10:02am Hello.. Axel, slow means about 15kph. I don't keep tabs on speed or distance generally because I find it's easier to do what I do, so to speak. My routes are mostly well known to me so it's easy to vary my strength of application rather than to go for speed or distance. Although there's always the temptation to do more especially if the weather is kind. I would not describe my kind of cycling as Endurance although yesterday's drizzle and gloom did make it something to be endured.
I have refused amiodarone because of the side effects, which were intolerable. I do take BBs which were recently varied but seem ok; echocardiogram is a wonderful view from inside your body of your heart performing live on stage, I have tried to buy a front row season ticket. My anticoagulants recently changed from warfarin with no ill effects so far. Cardiologists vary too: in my time I have had a few.

Haven't called in for some time now until this questioned popped up in my head.
Eight years since this question was asked and no doubt many times since and all of the information given has proven to be useful to me. Perhaps more so now as I am eight years older and fatter. Thanks

Little comfort to you but having read this thread and of your terrible experiences living as I do in Eastbourne I am even more pleased that although I had considered an Enigma TI I instead brought a Roberts steel framed Tourer.

Re: What did you do to your bike today
Continued to work on my Bianchi. Last night I actually attempted to remove the Free Hub on the rear wheel yet again. And yet again it would not budge.
Today having changed it to a Compact chain set 50/34 from triple 52/42/30 I set about adjusting the front derailleur but the chain kept coming off of the big chain ring. So I assumed that the curvature of the triple wasn't compatible with the 50t ring.
Thankfully I was able to dive into my box of spare parts and find one that might do the job, But it was a brace on and I needed a banded one. Jumped back into the box and found a Shimano marked band and the Campag FD fits a treat. So tomorrow its back to fine tuning it but having given it a few rotations it looks no longer jumper off the big chain ring so things are looking good.

Re: Campagnolo/Miche 11 Speed Cassette on a 10 Speed Free Wheel
Thanks slowster. Because I have fitted Harry Rowland wheels with a Campag freehub ( thanks PQ) I am able to use a 29t sprocket which isnt too bad climbing hills with a Compact CS up front.
Sadly the lure of buying the bike was that it had a triple chainset but I found 52,42,30 wasn't great gearing for me and that it was a prestigious brand Bianchi so this bike has never given me what I thought it would.
The wheels will I think become Wall Art after all of this.
PQs comment about Campag of being a aspirational brand has set the hares running in my head so I might just at some time upgrade it to Record or Super Record. After all any money I either spend on bike parts or bikes will just be wasted

Re: Campagnolo/Miche 11 Speed Cassette on a 10 Speed Free Wheel
Thanks PQ I will as you advise quit using the term freewheeling.pq wrote: ↑17 May 2021, 10:48am It looks to me as though you need to ditch this wheel, if as others have said it's a bodged up hotch-potch of obsolete bits. You're complaining a lot about how Shimano would be much easier, but it seems to have nothing to do with that and everything to do with the parts Bianchi have cobbled together to make this bike. A new rear wheel with either a current Shimano or Campag pattern freehub will make your life a whole lot easier. I'd go with Campag becasue that's what your gears are, but either can be made to work.
The Miche sprockets are available, I bought a couple very recently but it's true most places don't have them. Google will oblige. Mine came from Bikeinn - but I only bought from them becasue the 32T I wanted are particularly rare and I couldn't find them anywhere else. There are also old stocks of Marchisio here and there if you hunt around which go up to 30.
For clarity it would be good if you stopped using the word freewheel. One of my earlier posts was simply becasue your use of that word meant I misunderstood what you were saying.
As you can see from slowster posting it seems like you said Bianchi have just notched up a 9 speed hub. Given the wheels are virtually brand new I am loathed to either sell or ditch them just because I cannot fit lower gearing and now I know they are actually 9 speed I may be able to get a larger 9 speed sprocket.
I think your earlier comment about Campag gearing being aspirational is a fair one as well.
Given my own experience with Campag is at the lowest end of its market I think I may have expressed a foolish comment there. On reflection I do think the reason you pay so much for Campag is that at the Chorus and above level you are buying quality items. In my own experience with Shimano I always used 105 and then decided to upgrade one of my bikes via Ebay with Ultegra and I cannot believe how much better quality the gear changes are. That said I do understand that the latest versions of 105 are equivalent to old Ultegra.
As they say you never stop learning do you. Thanks again Ted
