Re: One solution to tailgating?

In my younger days I used to drop down a gear, hit the brake pedal fiercely and quickly follow it with the accelerator. Now I just take pressure off the accelerator to drop speed by about 10-20mph, hold for a few seconds and then return to normal speed while reciting my mantra "If you can't mat...

Re: Police and Punishment Passes

Here's the reply that I had from the Officer who took my statement, I have just sent him another e-mail asking if there's any news yet. Many thanks for your time today. As spoken I shall arrange for a notice of intended prosecution to be sent out to the registered keeper of the vehicle with the aim ...

Re: Good bike maintenance book

I'll give +1 for the Park Tool book, but if it can be found, 'The Bike Book' by Haynes is also worth a look at; although for my bikes, I prefer the 1995 reprint to the most recent.

Re: Police and Punishment Passes

I had one last week, caused the driver coming the other way to swerve into the raised road edge. This driver added insult to injury by giving a one-fingered salute. Well phone-call and video clip to Thames Valley Police. Got a call back by a most understanding Officer who asked what my expectations ...

Re: IAM Forum demise

Hello all, sorry for keeping you all in suspense. It's been a stressy week (studying for an exam) then I got login problems with this forum. But its all fine now. Well this is what I have prepared. As I have said, this really needs well thought out and informed consideration, so not for the other si...

IAM Forum demise

Hello, Today I went in search of the IAM members forum and found that its not there anymore. It looks like its been closed. I have a question that I wish to post on the subject of driving technique and I need a 'good quality' forum for an intelligent and informed answer. So I took a look at the RAC ...

Re: I want to Ride London 2017

Thanks for the comments everyone. I shall be registering as soon as it opens and then just have to wait and see. Family connection is buying a house in London soon, so I'm hoping to blag a space on their floor for the night, although don't fancy coming into town carrying a sleeping bag :-(. Even if ...

I want to Ride London 2017

I was thoroughly entranced by the broadcasting coverage of the Ride London events and have decided that I want to enter the ballot for the 100 in 2017. I have done 100km before, although a bit unfit at the moment. My last long event was last years Dunwich Dynamo. Has anyone done the ride London 100 ...

Re: The problem with segregated cycle routes

I found this very video clip on another site and it contains a lot of discussion specific to what happened: http://road.cc/content/news/172152-video-driver-left-hooks-cyclist-upgraded-cycle-superhighway They make interesting reading, so do peruse them. I'm not going to comment on immediate events, a...

Re: Driving my car

I'm getting to hate my daily drive to work. Pulling away from the traffic lights at Streatley yesterday morning, the line of traffic ahead was going slowly. By the time I reached the cyclist ahead, I was on the double-unbroken white centre lines, so I stayed behind. Wish I had cameras in the car for...

Re: Dynatek road bike

Hello Ava, Do you mean Dyna-Tech? And do you mean carbon? Dyna-Tech was the name given to a range of bikes produced by the Special Products division of Raleigh two generations ago and they were not carbon, but Titanium. If you take a look at the likes of Van Nicholas, a Ti frame is very expensive. I...

Re: "You can't ride in the middle of the road"

I get the same problem where I am, just round the corner, the road is reduced to a chicane because a couple of van owners park on the road. Twice recently, I've had drivers drive at me on my side of the road because they won't wait behind the parked vans while I clear the space. There's also a long ...
