Re: ** The Brexit Thread ** - 'Brexit Means Brexit'

I'm still surprised and a little disappointed that one of, if not the main contender for the Tory party leadership wasn't invited to last night's debate. Nigel Farage had to make do with a Telegraph event. His was obviously the "empty podium" even if a chair hadn't been provided for him. ...

Re: Tory leader - place your bets

I don't blame Parliament: it was May's intransigence and government. She refused to seek consensus until after we were meant to have left. And she tried to suppress parliament and taking back control of our sovereign parliament was, after all, one of the stated aims of Brexit.

Re: About bike shops for big people?

And it certainly isn't my fault if somebody wants to eat themselves into an early grave, although I have no doubt that the taxpayer will be expected to fund ever stranger "treatments" while a working man has to wait months for a hernia repair. The thing about the NHS is it is chronically ...

Re: Cyclist 50% to blame for hitting pedestrian

Way back in the 1970s I was driving along an urban motorway earn a man leapt over the metal railings and straight out in front of me. I was held partly responsible (even though pedestrians are absolutely banned) because 'there is always something more that could have been done to avoid the pedestria...

Re: Cyclist 50% to blame for hitting pedestrian

There's nothing new about a claim being reduced because of the claimant's contributory negligence. Happens in road and other accidents with cars all the time. It always seems unfair but there it is. The cyclist does have responsibility as does the pedestrian.

Re: About bike shops for big people?

It cannot be denied that, overall, these are truths:

1. Portion sizes are larger;
2. People are larger;
3. People exercise less.

Re: Health Service professionals

I'm not actually overweight at 70kg and I cycle 100km per week but my sugar levels are elevated. If I had been overweight I might have been pretty annoyed.

I'm a great believer in bouts of idleness. Leisure William Henry Davies What is this life if, full of care, We have no time to stand and stare. No time to stand beneath the boughs And stare as long as sheep or cows. No time to see, when woods we pass, Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass. No tim...

Re: Tory leader - place your bets

Just a thought ........... The old saying is that policemen seem to be getting younger these days ............ because you yourself are getting older! :D However, is there a statistic out there showing the average age of the MPs over the years? Are they getting younger or not? I doubt individuals a...

Health Service professionals

Following a recent blood test which Gond that my sugar levels were elevated I visited this morning a pre-diabetes clinic and was advised by a NHS fitness and diet trainer.

The lady was significantly obese. Most of the nurses in my practice and some of the doctors are, too.

Talking of wheatears I get remarkable if indecent pleasure from the derivation of their name: white a.r.s.e. (built in sanitising protocols changed the last word to buttock which doesn't really work in the context).

Churchill was all over the place.

I'm not too bothered about individuals changing allegiance. Election time comes. But when the leader - and PM- changes there should be a law that we have a GE within 6 months.
