Re: Safety Camera for Bicycle Users

Hi IMHO they only boost your perceived safety, but they might be useful for insurance purposes IME you really need front and rear-mounted cameras to cover all eventualities, and few standard cameras, if any, will continue to work without charging for a long cycling day The video loops, so an incide...

Re: What's wrong with just a mirror?

I'm not interested in proving a loon got me with his car, from behind or any other direction. I'm much more interested in preventing or avoiding such loon actions. Christ on a bicycle, you should pardon the pun! That's what I keep saying. The camera is a signal to approaching drivers that if they b...

Re: What's wrong with just a mirror?

Will not a camera and screen make you something of a hostage to fortune? What if the battery goes? What if the camera lens gets a dollop of mud or similar on it? What if the thing just goes phut? I wouldn't count on my WiFi rear camera to substitute for a good old-fashioned mirror. I chose it for t...

Re: What's wrong with just a mirror?

I very much doubt that the sight of a bit of plastic on the back of your bike will significantly influence many drivers. Given that bikes and cyclists do not have a uniform appearance, but instead vary widely and all sorts of types of different accessories and luggage etc. can be attached to a bike...

Re: What's wrong with just a mirror?

It's not about prevention or cure, since both of those are about as attainable as a Brexit deal that doesn't bankrupt Britain! I'm for improving awareness, that's all, and encouraging sloppy, selfish drivers to think for an extra beat before passing me too close. Hence the hi-viz, not hidden, rear c...

Re: What's wrong with just a mirror?

The point is that if drivers can see you have a camera, their behaviour might be positively influenced, whereas with those combo units, all they see is a light...yawwwwwn!

Re: What's wrong with just a mirror?

I keep reading about these combo rear light/camera rigs and I believe they are entirely missing the point. What's critical is for dozy distracted drivers to see that you have a camera running that will save a permanent record if they do something dangerous, and you'll get the wide berth common sense...
