Re: Looking for recommendations for a 7 day tour in England or Wales

How about starting from your home and planning a loop. No travel hassles but the challenge of devising a route?

Re: Hadrians Wall Cycle Way Camping

Camp sites we used last Summer were at Wylam (ok but only one loo, no shower), Acomb (good), Brockalee at Bardon Mill (excellent) and Banks (very good almost wild camping with basic facilities). The Bistro en Glaze in Wylam was the stand out meal. Vindolanda the top Museum. My blog is on Crazyguyona...

Re: Ancient lanes and old main roads

An ancient lane I can recommend is the Welsh Road which is Towcester to Royal Leamington Spa via Blakeley, Preston Capes, Priors Marston and Southam. Lovely quite former drove road which climbs up into the hills south of Daventry. Just don't expect any cafes!

Re: Sustrans Lejog route advice for south Manchester

In 2018 I came through Manchester from the Peak District as follows: New Mills (camped) to Marple along the canal tow path Marple to Bredbury following route 55. Tricky bit on road to get to route 6 which is plagued with anti Dalek barriers, but not much choice. Some removal of panniers needed. Alon...

Hadrian's Wall cycle route

Next week I'm off along the Newcastle to Carlisle section of the path using bikes and camping to visit lots of the forts and the wall. The aim is to max out the history with slow rides as this will also be my other halfs first cycle camping trip. History is the bribe. Suggestions for good places to ...

Re: NCR12 / Great North Way

North of the subway NCN12 is on tarmac cycle paths or roads to Sherrardspark Wood in Welwyn Garden City. Tarmac again from Shot Green to north end of Stevenage. Rough surface sections south and north of Letchworth then tarmac to Arlesley. All rideable unless on very thin racing tyres. What I'm looki...

Re: A Guide to Crossing London Between Trains: Moorgate and Kings Cross to Euston

Re Moorgate: One thing to note is that no bikes are allowed at any time going north to Drayton Park on the lines to Welwyn Garden City and Hertford North as the line is a tube line and so the same ban as on the deep London Underground tubes applies. Better to cycle to Kings Cross or get onto the rou...

Ardrossan to Glasgow

Planning a trip from Penrith to Glasgow largely following National Route 7 but with a side trip to Arran. From Ardrossan to Glasgow the route is the old railways: What is the surface like? My alternative is a backroads route to Barrhead which is more direct and remarkably seems to be less climbing, ...

Re: Family cycle tour in the UK

Feddy and I did our ride to York when he was 12 starting from Hatfield http://www.crazyguyonabike.com/doc/ridetoyork2015 The route might be useful for ideas. I'd avoid the B road from Huntindon to Whittlesey if doing it again. We really enjoyed the moving on and camping in different palces, the site...
