Re: Hilleberg Floor Delaminating?
Contact your retailer (hopefully you bought it from a shop)
Failing that contact Hilleberg. We had a failure 22 years ago during a world trip after 3 months if memory serves me right and they sent a replacement. Subsequent tents (we've had 3) have all been fine

Re: Cyprus to Introduce Compulsory Helmets
In my honest opinion, this needed to go here as it affects Touring. It's not a statement for and against.Vorpal wrote: ↑18 Aug 2022, 3:06pm Can people please post helmet commentary viewtopic.php?t=152741 and not on this thread, which should be used only for the impact on cycling touring plans.
I'm a non helmet wearing and am bored rigid by forums on this subject, so I would never look there, but I would look here for touring advice and yes this has an impact on touring in Cypress

Re: Cumbria Cycleway
Yes it took quite some time going through it and trying to interpret the maps to produce the GPX routes as yes that's where they came from. Available for 50 pence from second hand shops, and you'll major on geology. For me though it was a good read/

Re: Cumbria Cycleway
It's a different ride. The Cumbria Cycleway is gentler. A local I know well has described the Lakes and dales loop as 'hard'Richard Fairhurst wrote: ↑7 Aug 2021, 10:55am Has it not been largely supplanted by the Lakes & Dales Loop? http://www.lakesdalesloop.co.uk/history/
What perplexes me is why the route has had it's signs removed. Yes there are a few sections of A roads. The worst is out of Carlisle to Brampton, however the Hadrian's wall route which runs the same way takes a hillier but quieter route so that can be used.
The A595 is used to Botle so maybe that's the reason?
I've also ridden most of the Hadrian's Wall this year, this uses a few faster roads as well
Does anyone know why?

Re: Cumbria Cycleway
Thanks for that.
I'm also doing a map for the Tandem Club so will add the site to that one
It's the camping gap between Arnside and Millom if anyone knows a sight in that location, otherwise it's 80 miles

Re: Cycle trip south Devon
I wrote up the Devon coast to coast after I rode it this year (I come from Tavistock)
There are maps, pictures and links to GPX routes with full route instructions
I'm doing a series of these which are available to anyone, just to share the joy of touring and to get a resource where everything you need s in one place.
I did in in 5 days, going up and back, but took my time, notably because I was making notes, taking pictures etc

Cumbria Cycleway
The Cumbria Cycleway was the first UK National Route.
Sadly it is no longer signed but is still a terrific ride
I've created many routes over the years for both the Tandem Club and CTC Holidays, so with lockdown I found the orriginal guide and recreated it with GPX files, route sheets, pictures and a detailed description. If you'd like a look and fancy what really is a wonderful weeks tour, have a look at the link which contains everything you need to just pick up the information and ride it

If you do ride it, I'd be very interested in feedback
Enjoy

By Barbara Savage
It recounts an American's round the world trip with her husband Larry. In my opinion never bettered, it's funny and is an easy read

Re: Hadrian's Wall
As we lurch into a pot of history folks that’s because Wade built this road and others to suppress the Scottish revolt in this area organised by the Jacobites. It allowed fast movement of troops (straight road) If you visit Carlisle castle as I did yesterday the remnants were housed there and not treated well. He had somewhat of a reputation by all accounts. Fascinating area and a reason I love cycle touring

Re: Hadrian's Wall
OK
Apologies to tiger bitten but the military road was not built by the romans. It was built by general wade in 1746 to transport people and materials as fast as possible. In fact pieces of the wall were probably used to construct it
I’ve just ridden it. The interesting bits are up to the landscape museum who’s name eludes me on the right where you turn off the military road to visit Vindolanda, the privately owned roman fort that is not on the wall. If you do this part you are now cycling south of the wall and for the rest of route 72 will never see it again. However if you stay on the military road you will see the wall rise over the fells which is quite a sight apparently because I missed it to drop off the road to the excavations.
As for the road it was quiet. As it’s so straight you can look back/ forward and simply pull off for lorries
Enjoy
