Re: Penrite SF Grease for Alfine 8?

Does it mean that the fixing bolt has moved somehow and needs adjustment? Where should I look to correct the cable drag?

Re: Penrite SF Grease for Alfine 8?

One thing that got a bit worse after oil lubrication (or just over time?) is gear shifting from 4th to 5th. When I do it when pedaling, sometimes it's rather instant (like all other gear changes), but sometimes it takes 1-2 seconds (or 1-2 crank rotations) to actually switch to 5th. The hub is the m...

Isn’t the RH dustcap just hand tight on A11 like on A8?

Re: Shimano Alfine 11 - Longer term reliability

You may want to check this video on sprocket removal: https://youtu.be/hcqjuj3xfo0?t=393 It’s the A11 + belt drive. P.s. are you sure that your belt is not overtightened? I’ve seen several bike with overtightened belts sold at the shops. Hell, my Cannondale Bad Boy was sold to me with its belt overt...

Re: Penrite SF Grease for Alfine 8?

After removing my Alfine8 rear wheel today I noticed that the LHS locknut was loose, although I tightened it quite well when doing the oil-inject procedure. Can it become loose after several iterations of axle nuts tightening/untightening?

Re: Penrite SF Grease for Alfine 8?

Could that be an overtightened cone/locknut? (I actually did it according to instructions here, hand-tightened the cone, backed off 1/4 turn, tightened the locknut, then went in small increments to tighten both of them)

Re: Penrite SF Grease for Alfine 8?

I decided to pedal more on a repair stand, there seems to be some freewheel ratcheting/clicking in high gears (4-8). The sound is similar to the one whel pedalling backwards. Moreover, his ratcheting disappears if I interrupt the freewheel by pedalling slightly forward and then releasing to freewhee...

Re: Penrite SF Grease for Alfine 8?

The wheel with the RHS down probably for around 5 minutes after adding the oil, with only a couple of oil drops leaked. As for the grease, below is a pic of how the LHS bearing looked like, basically very small amounts of white grease between the bearings. I wonder if I should add some general purpo...

Hard to say, maybe it will all decide to leak out through the RHS :)

Re: Penrite SF Grease for Alfine 8?

Well, I injected about 20ml of Alfine 11 oil into my Alfine 8 through the LHS bearing. While I was fiddling with the cone and locknut tightening on the bench vise, I noticed that the oil started leaking from the RHS (gravity, eh). I put the wheel back on, cycled through all gears for about 10 mins. ...

Re: Penrite SF Grease for Alfine 8?

Brucey,

Is there a clear guideline on LH cone and locknut tightening torque? I don't have a torque wrench for 15mm anyway, so maybe you could explain it in layman's terms?

Re: Penrite SF Grease for Alfine 8?

Has anyone compared the seals on Alfine 8 vs Alfine 11? Considering the number of reports of Alfine 11 leaking oil, I'd assume they are quite similar.
