Re: New tyres?
The first one was a large piece of glass and there was no stopping this one, the other two I have no idea, but were very small and found nothing in the tyre, The glass went through my rear tyre the other two were on the front.....tread depth is the same front and back, the image being closeup appears to show more tread than there is to the eyethirdcrank wrote: ↑2 May 2023, 5:16pm You don't seem to have mentioned what caused your series of punctures.
My point is that unless you have identified the cause and dealt with it you may just be having replays.

Re: New tyres?
This was my initial thinking, I've no idea of mileage covered but the bike is well used, when not touring it gets used on day rides and from March to November a regular weekend commute to our caravan a 70 mile round trip up and down Hadrian's way. They are Marathon green guards and have been brilliant and have been swapped round front for back.axel_knutt wrote: ↑2 May 2023, 4:54pm That tyre looks fine, if you've been four years without a puncture you're doing well (depending on how many miles that was). Spates of punctures can occur for no particular reason, I've had periods of a couple of years without, but I've also had as many as four in one day (on more than one occasion). I think that people tend to over analyse this, they're random, good runs and bad runs just happen, between January & August 2000 I had 20-30 punctures, but I've never had another period that bad, before or since.

New tyres?
Never had a puncture for around 4yrs, had a valve go and a rather sharp rim tape give me problems but nothing has ever gone through my tyres to cause a puncture until now when I've had 3 in 3 weeks, I think I'm answering my own question here but do i need new tyres

Re: Seat posts
Thanks, I've given up trying to get the image on, sorry, just looking for something lighter that will not break the bank, I know about the diameter but I'm not sure if there was certain type to avoid, carbon for example as they seem very expensive and as I've managed for years with the monstrosity that's on so I'm just looking for something lighter.

Seat posts, not something I've ever changed ever! but the suspension post that came with the bike is heavy and has been locked off since i bought the bike so I'm going to replace it with something a little lighter, does anybody have a suggestion please. Thank you

Re: Eurovelo 15 signposting
This is what I do after previously using paper maps, I use an old Android phone attached to my handlebar, plan with cycle.travel, use pre downloaded maps (i use maps.me) and keep the device in airplane mode which is normally good for 2 or 3 days cycling, If I come to a junction and I'm unsure which way to go I switch on the screen which in turn fires up the GPS and work out which way to go from there. My other phone stays safely stored away. It's not turn by turn and you still need map reading skills to a certain degree but the beauty for me personally is the ability to change my route on the fly the same as using paper maps but without the hassle. For the first time, I recently had an electronic route on my phone for a bike trip , but if you have battery life concerns, or like me, just don't want to needlessly have the phone on all the time with gps running etc, perhaps try like what I did--using the gps location only when you aren't sure if you've missed an intersection or whatever.
This worked well for us, as the route we were following was generally well signed, but was useful to pinpoint at times either using the Dutch biking app I used, or even just Google maps, at only the times when unsure.
I found it handy not to have the battery drain and or the phone get hot from running all the time and in the sun (kept phone in handlebar bag or in rear pocket)
4 years ago, my wife and I did EV6, and generally we found the signage to be pretty straightforward, although there were the odd confusing bits, usually in more urban settings.

Re: new winter sleeping bag
Thanks' these look good, is there much room for feet? pictures can be deceiving but they do look a wee bit tight at the bottomMarcusT wrote: ↑10 Nov 2021, 5:28am I tried a number of bags. I was looking for a wide comfortable bag. The chinese clones were much too narrow. Most european brands were just a little too tight. I ended up looking at american bags for their wide girth. I ended up with a Kelty Cosmic (L). A good three season bag at a reasonable price. I am quite satisfied with it

Re: new winter sleeping bag
How lovely of you to go through my post history to find my sleeping bag thoughts, thank you for reminding me how good the £42 maggot has been. Mind you I wouldn't call it a winter bag which is why I'm now looking for one i can use in colder temperatures but its served me well and will continue to do so....... It would be nice to be able to afford Gucci touring and camping gear, I'm not a wealthy person and try to budget my gear accordingly. The £42 “3 season” Millets bag purchased a couple of years ago didn’t work out then?

Re: new winter sleeping bag
Crazy weather at the moment, I work nights it was 14c last night here in NE England, I may just stick with my little 2 season bag if these winter temperatures continuehorizon wrote: ↑9 Nov 2021, 1:25pmI think they are bonkers but the better manufacturers, to their credit, do often point this out. Who you are, what you eat, what you are lying on, who else is in the tent with you - it all counts, probably far more than the bag rating. And a "summer" rating (we had 5 deg overnight in Devon, camping in early September) is nonsense when compared to the "winter" 13 deg it will be tonight in mid November.

Re: new winter sleeping bag
Thank you kindly for your replies ...... It was never a pi***** competition between the Rab and OEX... I know about RDS certified down, fill weight and fill power, I also know what size bag I like regardless of manufactures stated figures I also like to try before I buy (if possible) I've tried the Rab Ascent series and I'm not against buying one even the regular size though I'd probably go for the XL as i like to be able to pull the hood in the bag with me ( a habit I picked up dressing as a tree, putting my right hand next to my head and calling a few people sir) something only just possible with the Rab though my feet are up against the bottom of the bag.
The Cumulus bags look great if a little narrow below the knee for my liking but once you change the bag size the price makes them more expensive than the Rab. Have to agree with the comfort ratings always taken with a good pinch of salt.
Leading the race at the moment is the RAB ascent 700 XL until I can try the Alpkit bags and the OEX....Thanks' again for the input much appreciated any more suggestions gratefully received.
