Re: Not impressed by Land Cruiser PLUS tyres

I ran a set of Land Cruisers (I think standard not plus) for a year of city commuting and gravel roads. The only puncture came from a drawing pin, I am now running Marathon Crosses which have had one puncture from a thorn, although I don't feel they handle so well (but it's different bike and a diff...

Silly bar end question

My 9 speed Sora Sti shifter has packed up this week so I am contemplating fitting bar ends. How does the cable routing work? Do they go inside the handle bar and pop out of a hole at some point (and presumably then hide under the tape)? If so could I expect a suitable hole to be there already? Or do...

Re: Wheels for commuting

Probably not, if I end up commuting through winter I'll problay just get some good rehargeable LED lamps and charge them at home or my desk.

Are dynamo lights any good? I always think of them powering a glowing incandesent bulb, although I expect technoogy has moved on.

Wheels for commuting

Good Morning, Having recently moved house my commute is going to increase from 2.5miles each way, mostly on redways* and minor residential roads, to around 12 miles, 50:50 split between busy country lanes and redways*. This means it's time to swap from the retro MTB (Dimondback Topanga based - most ...

Re: Frequent Tube Punctures

About 10 years ago was having weekly punctures with Kenda Kriterium tires, this then went down to around 0-1 every 6 months when keeping the same 10mile round trip compute but swapping to Continental gator skins. (700c x 25) Recently I have used Schwalbe Marathon Cross and Schwalbe Land cruiser in 2...

Sit up and beg

The question is why don't more people ride sit up and beg bikes? The reason I ask is that I've just recommissioned my Grandmas old bike (standard sturmy archer 3 speed) and taken it on a quick ride round the block, it was a far more relaxing to ride than either my road bike or mountain bike, I've al...

Re: Chain breaking stress

Ahh thanks for that I'd looked at SRAM and Shimano but didn't think about looking at Taya however I've now found it from a reliable enough source!

Many thanks
David
BTW what Land Rover do you have?

EDIT: Thanks I'm only looking at it in line, so that good.

Chain breaking stress

OK here’s an odd question for you, does anyone know what the breaking stress is of a bike chain? I'm mainly looking at the cheaper end of the spectrum, but does anyone have any vague figures, or know where to find any? The reason for this is I'm trying to work out if the forces we're planning to put...

Re: Tyre tread direction for grass, loose surfaces

The tractor style is meant to be self cleaning, however some lots of ag trailers have there tires fitted the other way round, but I can't remember why.

Re: Where I can get a job that pays me to ride my bike?

You are not on this planet to enjoy yourself  , you are here to have a good job, career progression and a cushy pension. Do jobs like that still exist ? Yes of course become a politician. You can ride your bike and pretend you are being "green" And be paid 20p a mile for the privile...

Re: Studded tyres - which bike?

....which bike they'd be best suited to? Please don't say 'none of the above' as the garage is full... If you could possibly find a bit more space I'd say go and buy a basic old MTB for £25 from Gumtree, fit the studded tyres and enjoy! I got mine free and have spent £1.69 on a free wheel tool and £...

Re: Studded tyres - which bike?

I've just put my kenda klondites on my new second hand and free to me mountain bike (see siggy) but need to put the hub back together before I test them out properly. I don't think the road bike has the clearance, it has enough problems with clearance for 25mm gatorskins...

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, check your tubes!

I did find out during my summer tour that my glue was solid (in my defense it was the first puncture in two years and the first on that set of tires) fortunately it was the day I was staying over with a friend so I had nothing more than a car cycle rack (don't ask) strapped onto the back. So it was ...
