Re: Bike insurance and road side assistance options

For any mechanical problems other than punctures you are never going to be that far from some form of rescue. Be it limping on to a bike shop, a mobile mechanic, another cyclist, or a taxi ride to a bike shop or in worst case a rail station. This ^, most of the time. In remote areas you will find pe...

Bike insurance and road side assistance options

Good day, I am interested to know, what would you recommend for me. I would like to purchase some time of insurance that would cover stolen bike, destroyed bike and that would provide some type of road side assistance in case of a bigger breakdown during the trip. I will have separate health/travel ...

Re: Garmin GPS and maps

Don't just rely on the screen, look at paper maps too so you know more than just your route Talk to other LeJoGers, they might have knowledge of road closures, changes .. Is it better to do JoGLE? That way one encounters many more people going the other way who have just cycled the bit one is doing...

Thank you all for the suggestions, ideas and posts. I really appreciate your input and help. I am now able to plan much better knowing what to expect and I can save some valuable space and weight in and on my panniers.
Best regards,

Re: Garmin GPS and maps

So I have just received the Garmin EU cycling maps on SD card. I have installed it into my unit and turned on my gpx route. The rout sits on the map and is shaped on top of the roads, trails etc. I will just be following the route polyline and not be using the routing or turn by turn navigation. The...

Re: Garmin GPS and maps

Thank you all for your help. I did end up buying Garmin map on SD card. I bought the EU Cycling map for $50. I will be testing it later this week. It seems like a good suggestion to use the Map screen of the GPS and just follow the track and not relying at all on the turn by turn navigation. Thank ...

Re: June 1st 2019 at Lends End

Hi We are setting off on 24th May from Lands end averaging 60 miles a day with a couple of rest days factored in. We are bound to cross paths at some point as sure you will be doing bigger mileage. My fellow rider Mavis 81 is attempting the record for the oldest woman to complete Lehigh. Happy to s...

Re: June 1st 2019 at Lends End

Sorry going later end if june :D Are you camping or b+b? How many days and which route are you doing. Thanks for your post. I have dedicated 15 days for pure riding, but have 2 additional days if necessary. I am going to completely wing it as far as accommodation. I will have some daily minimums to ...

June 1st 2019 at Lends End

Is anyone starting the LEJOG on the 1st of June 2019 at Lends End? I am, I am going solo the whole way, but I am curious if anyone will be more or less on the route at the same time. Would you be interested functioning as a point of contact or emergency or exchanging suggestions during the ride, may...

Re: Royston Woods - A Safer Way - Who has actually done it ?

Hello all. I will be doing Royston's "safer route" this June, starting on the June 1st, allowing myself 15 days to complete. (I will have two spare days in case of emergency). I will be doing it by camping only, no B&B as I will have not exact daily targets. I will not be writing a blo...

Garmin GPS and maps

Greeting LEJOG community. I was wondering what map(s) would you recommend for Garmin GPS. On the Garmin website the offers are as follows: #1 Topo PRO in scale 1:50k for the whole of Great Britain for the cost of $199.99 (it has ActiveRouting and turn-by-turn directions on roads and trail) OR #2 Top...

Supplies along the way

Hi LEJOG community. I am planning to the LEJOG this June (2019). I have not decided on the route, but have a question about supplies. I know this would be variable from village to village or town to town or store to store, but I am not British and I have no idea about grocery stores in UK. So the qu...
