PS: "European Sleeper is also planning a winter night train between Amsterdam and the French Alps, as well as an EU-backed Amsterdam-Barcelona service launching in 2025. More sleeping cars should increase comfort and the travel experience, it said."
The Man has:
Bikes are carried on the European Sleeper for €19. They are carried in a large bike compartment in the seats car at one end of the train.

Will this be the same to Prague?
The Prague train is just the existing Berlin one, but it will carry on to Prague, so yes.

I've been doing dummy bookings for the summer as far as Prague with a bike and the web site will let you do it.
Thanks again.

I've just asked about the sleeper compartments:

Q: Is it possible to book a sleeper for two people with no-one else sharing it?

A: yes thats possible, While making your booking, choose for the option "double" than the compartment is just for the 2 of you

First I should say I don't remember seeing the video. Second, 'flex' is a term normally attributed to purely elastic deformations. No aging treatment can greatly alter the stiffness of a frame. only really the yield point, ie. when the deformations become plastic in nature. Normally frames age ~80-90% in a few weeks ie. in the boat from Taiwan, but this does depend on the ambient temperature.

Re: Just how long will it take to turn this ship around?

Yes, China has a lot of reserves and provides much of the current (!) supply. But there are
alternatives, as in the Forbes article which you cited. Those alternatives place a powerful (!) limit on China's control.

And lots of people saying the same thing doesn't make anything more or less true.

The OP hasn't reappeared.

Please could we put all of this valuable expertise and experience in the Europe 2024 thread in order to increase the chance of the next person who needs it being able to find it.

The awkward fact that China has a near monopoly of the elements essential for electric car production.

Which elements, please? And are you referring to current (!) production or reserves?
simonineaston wrote: 15 Apr 2024, 10:51am
According to a study from the prestigious Brooking’s Institution, China presently produces some 60% of the world’s rare earth elements and processes 85% of them.
Quote from article in Forbes - see here and another article here
And as the Forbes article says:

But if Beijing too actively, severely, and frequently denies users these vital materials, it is a good bet that the developed west and Japan will cultivate other sources and develop refining techniques acceptable to their more environmentally sensitive dispositions.

Nowhere near monopoly control.

Will be riding in and around East Riding of Yorkshire cycle paths disused railway tracks and road .
On the one hand full suspension for comfort especially with current potholes situation but also can be sluggish and heavy riding.
A gravel bike which are new to me and do you go flat bar / drop bars along with single drive train vs dual ring .
I’m bothered about stiff neck from drops but better areodynamics in head wind .
Thoughts or suggestions welcomed.
Ps currently riding hard tail for commute
What size and type are your current tyres, and how much would you like to spend on the new bike?
Hi Jonathan I’m currently riding a hard tail with 29 inch 2.25 , 4” travel front forks and 1*10 32t 11-46 , great for work commute.
Willing to spend upto £2000
Today I got the chance to go on a group road ride , first time on a road bike in 30 years lol
A Viking road master 700 by 25c 34/50 11-32 small frame , fit me like a glove ,
Managed 60km at a steady pace mainly head wind as well
Thankyou

As well drag brakes it has lots on slow and fast descending, and some physics, and some data (!), much of which is also relevant to lonely bikes.

The industry has made it very clear what differences they think this will make. They're asking for more efficient and fairer checking processes, and sensible periods of notice before implementation.

And, as always, please take the opportunity to mention the positives...
